Walters won the first heat on his John Anderson-prepped White Brothers YZ400F over Meyer and Motoworld Yamaha racer Dustin Nelson, who rode as a substitute for the injured TQdd Downs. Heat two went to Carter Gurnee, who was followed by White Brothers Yamaha racer Dubach and Healey, whose borrowed YZ400F blew a gasket, after he had taken a quick spill earlier. "It wa blowing oil all over the place," Healey said later. "We just 'Yamahbonded' it up, eros ed our finger and hoped and prayed that it'd hold, and it worked. That's all that mattered. I was more worried about blowing up my buddy's bike." Tony Sulek took the last-chance qual· ifier on his Yamaha. When the 12-lap main started, Walters seemed to (lave the best jump into the first turn from his front-row slot, with teammate Dubach sweeping in next to him, and TRE Yamaha pilot Meyer, elan, Healey and Gurnee filing in close behind. Unfortunately for the defending champ, he didn't own the lead coming au t of the turn. Instead, he and Josh Chisum went down and found themselves trying to restart their bikes ANAHEIM, CA, JAN. 30 otocrosser-turn d-off-road-racer Mike Healey borrowed a bike, crashed it and broke it, but he still won the Stadium Thunder Bike main event at round four of the PACE Motor Sports U.s. Off-Road Championship Series. He beat out fellow YZ400F riders Doug Dubach and Scott Meyer to take the win at Anaheim's Edison International Field. "1 knew 1 was on the inside, so 1 tried holding it on a little bit longer and went a little too hard into the turn trying to outbrake those guys and push them out," Walter said. "1 think 1 kind of clipped someone and kind of locked it up a little bit too mum; it wa so tacky, and the thing just stalled; then guys ran into me. So it was kind of ugly." "Actually, I think 1 had the start," Dubam said. "1 came down to the first turn, and I think it was Spud that hit me and knocked me a little wide. I ended up maybe fourth or fifth or somewhere right on that first lap." In the confusion, Meyer found himself at the front of the pack, but that d idn' t last for long, as Healey made his presence known quickly. "1 got a good break off the line," the former GP motocro ser explained. "1 wasn't first or second, bu t by the end of the first lap I had the lead, and away 1 went. 1 just u ed my head and rode like [ know how to ride - just kept it smooth.
