I EBh·~~ YAMAHA of~ ''''', i Randy Hawkins took the overall win at the Cherokee Hare Scrambles - round eight of the SETRA Hare Scrambles series - in Greensboro, Georgia. Kawasaki-mounted Rod Stuckey was right 6n Gravitt's tail at the finish, claiming third. "'I got the holeshot and led most of the first lap,"' said Stuckey. "'Ramey got by, (but) then (Ramey) had some problems and r got back around him. After that, me and Allen rode together all day, swapping places. It was great."' As the AA riders lined up for the start, five of SETRA's best were gunning for Hawkins: Gravitt, Ramey, Stuckey, Tommy Veator and Jason Chancey were all in the running for the win early on, Ramey was the first to drop out of contention, due to bike problems. Hawkins gained lI,e lead by passing Gravitt on lap two, and he maIntained a huge lead all the way to the checkered flag. At the finish, Hawkins had nearly a minute over secondplaced Gravitt. Stue ey and Chancey filed in behind Gravitt. "You kind of learn where you can ride ha.rd at/' said Hawkins about his recent success racing the SETRA Hare Scrambles series. "'In the rooty, nasty stuff, , would cool it and pick my way through, then ride hard in the rest. It's neat to ride an event where the fans are hoUering at you. My mechanic, Dale, and my girlfriend, Cathy, were here supporting me. The only thing that could make this race any better was if J got ational points for it. My YZ400 ran good. I had fun. It's just good to be able to ride and support the SETRA races." In the first race,Master A~c1ass rider Wayne Beaty took the overall ahead of KTM-mounted Scott Mount. Toby Boyd captured the final podium spot on ltis Kawasaki. Forest Hardeman and Mel Smith rounded out the top five in the morning program.
