competition.. Roten followed in with another second place. David Wallace was the big winner in mota one of the Expert class. George Spearing started out way back in the pack but powered on to take second place on lap five of the eight-lap affair. Spearing held on to the runner-up spot to the finish. rt was Steve Read out in front in mota two, but Wallace found a way around him and took over for al''lOther win and first overall on the day. Again, Spearing worked his way through tbe pack to claim another second. Barry Hale flew his KTM into the lead ll1 Amateur competition. On lap four, however, Frank Derby passed Hale for the lead. Derby went down in the fifth lap, allowing Randy Bruce to take command and win the mota. Hale held second and Dennis Rosenberg raced his YZ400 into third. Rosenberg took tbe lead in mota two but fell back by the second lap, which was then owned by John Clemens. During the fifth lap, Clemens crashed and Bruce took over the lead and went on to win the mota. Wayne Rutledge overcame his poor start and really moved to wrap up second. Rosenberg crossed over with third. The first mota of Novice-class action began with Chuck Woody getting the holeshot, but Phil Blackburn maneuvered his KTM, past Woody on lap two. Riding a new KTM, Berry Simon passed B1ackbu.rn for the lead and the win. Blackburn claimed second and Woody settled for third. Woody took the lead in mota lwo, but it was Blackburn taking the Wll1 with and first overall. Woody was second and John Wel;>b rounded out the top three.. Results NOV: '1. Phil Blackburn (KTM); 2. Top Texans take two classes By Deb Hershman FORT WORTH, TX, JAN. 17 Josh Demuth, Chase Reed, Jonatban Kerr and Steve Hill all earned double event wins in the final round. of the Top Texan Series, held at the Mosier Valley Motocross USA. Demuth grabbed the holeshots in both the 125cc and 250cc Expert events on his way to the class wins. "[ felt really good," Demuth commented alter his double Wll1S. "I pulled the holeshots. I've been practicing a lot on the holeshots and working out a lot, trying to get ready for the Supercross series." Central Yamaha/LCS-backed Chase Reed collected his two overall wins in the 125cc Intermediate and 125cc Open Amateur events. in mota one of the Intermediate race, Reed led a wire-to-wire battle to the checkered flag. [n mota two, Reed had to battle with Team Green/LeS-powered Adam Mennenga and North Texas Yamaha-backed Beau Boynton, w1til Reed claimed the lead on lap four for the overall win. The top five overall were Reed, Mennenga, Boynton, Nathan Hale and Scott Hershman. Mota one of the 125cc Open race saw Team Green's Jeremy Durrett leading most of the race while a battle for second heated up between several riders including Geoff Mayfield, Scotty Tremble, Chase Reed, Scott Hershman, Rya.n St. Cyr and Brian Walker. Reed went down hard in the whoops but rebowlded and charged hard to get the win. Mennenga led the charge off the gate in mota two to the checkered flag, while Reed fought his way up through the pack from a seventh·place start to finish second. Reed's 1-2 earned the top spot over Mennenga's 5-1 and Durrett's 3-3. Geoff Mayfield's 4-4 earned him fourth, and Scott Hershman finished fifth with a 6-5 tally. Reed just missed bringing home a triple crown for the day in the 250cc Intermediate class. Reed rode hard but couJd only manage to come in second to Nathan Hale's 2-1 mota finishes. Team Green's Jonathan Kerr rode his LCS~ powered Kawasaki to the overall win in mota two of the 80cc Open class, beating moto one's winner, ~Occ (14-16) rider Chad Cook. Although .Cook went wire to wire in mota one, the second mota had Kerr taking the lead from Cook. Kerr's dual overall Wll1 came in the 80cc (12-13) class with 1-1 motos. Yamaha-mounted Steve Hill claimed dual overall wins in the Over 25 Intermediate and Over 30 Intermediate classes by winning all four of his motos.
