In my original respOllse to the first letter we ever received on the subject, 1 wrote: "PACE is doing its own version 0[. race ·coverage via a live audio feed on its web site, located at www.pacesupercross.com." 1 can't think of a better way to "steer our readers in the right direction." You are correct in your statement that PACE and MotoWorld's live audio feed is "pretty cool." I had the opportunihj to listen to the Phoenix roulld live on my home computer, and it was definitely cool. As far as bad blood between PACE and Cycle ews goes, unless you know something that I don't, I don't believe such a thing exists ... Editor Okay, one more I just finished reading the comments from the readers who were upset with no Virtual Grandstand coverage of the supercross races. I, too, was a bit miffed upon finding out about having no race coverage. I had been looking forward to this for weeks. However, I then proceeded to the PACE Supercross horne page as directed by the kindness of Cycle News, where to my delight I found live coverage by the MotoWorld Network with real announcers - including Ricky Johnson doing live commentary. You should have seen the smile on my face - I was elated. This is what the Internet is all about - bringing instant information to the masses. I have to hand it to PACE and MotoWorld, they have gone all out in promoting our beloved sport of supercross. Supercross is on the cutting edge. Even though I applaud Cycle News for their Virtual Grandstand coverage in the past, which was then on the cutting edge, it is now time to go on to the next level. PACE and MotoWorld's live coverage is a needed and continued progression of the promotion of supercross. Hats off to PACE and MotoWorld . . Chris Strebe Yuma,AZ and off the track. Kudos, Mat. Care or not, you've earned a fan of your work. Best wishes on a successful season for you and your family. J.R Knutson ytk@execpc.com Frank about Bank One For all you supercross fans who are fed up with the excessive fighting, the bombardments from upper-deck fans, the drunk and inconsiderate fans who attended California's supercrosses - try Phoenix next year. I just got home from attending the third round at the Bank One Ballpark. It's a new stadium with ample room to layout a good course and there were lots of different food choices available - Blimpies, McDonalds, Little Ceasars, fruit stands, hot dog stands, and even a Ben & Jerry's ice cream stand. During the event, I didn't have people passing in front of me all night long. going to get or get rid of beer. The people in our section came to watch the races, and they only passed through during breaks in the action. There was one fight - but not 15 or 20. Next ye'!r I'm skipping California and going to Phoenix instead - to enjoy the races and to have a great time. David Burson Ridgecrest, CA Randy Mamola celebrates his victory in the 1987 Japanese SOOCc Grand Prix. Put Mamola on track Am I the only one who reads about Randy Mamola and thinks, "Why doesn't he race for Roberts and Modenas instead of just testing for them?" From Mamola says he's quite happy with his life the way it is. He currently lives in Spain with his wife and twa-children, does commentary for Speedvision's coverage of the Grand Prix Series, and still gets to wet his appetite for speed with the occQsional outing as a Modenas test rider. He wouldn't want . it any other way... Editor Kudos to Mladin I am a 52-year-old rider with 36 years of riding experience - and I'm not into hero worship. However, I want to express my admiration for Mat Mladin as a straight shooter, a man with a brain in his head. Few riders accept responsibility for poor judgement - on or off the track. Mat clearly demonstrated in his recent interview (Issue #2, January 20) that he has made both wise and unwise decisions - both on every report 1 see; his lap times are always right on par with everyone else. Maybe Roberts should start a superbike team with Yamaha R7s - with Mamola and Kurtis Roberts as riders. It sure would bring some flavor to a series that seems to be getting more and more competitive lately. D.R.
