Villa victorious at
REM Glen Helen Motocross

The midweek rains that left Glen Helen's soil
moist and tacky must have been to Michael
Villa's likin~ as he romped to two convincing
moto wins over the Vet Beginner class at Racing
Enterprises Motorsports' weekly Saturday
motocross.
The start of the first mota saw Brian Lehman
grab the holeshot on his CR250, with Villa in
tow. Dave Hjckerson ran third, while Skip Pulver held down fourth on his Yamaha. Rebecca
Kukla rode her Kawasaki KX100 into the fifth
spot as the pack completed lap one. Lehman
opened up a small lead over the first few laps,
but Hickerson began to pick up his pace and he
soon ran up on Villa, who still held second. The
two racers began to cut in to Lehman's advantage, and at the halfway mark in the moto they
had closed to make it, a three-way haWe for the
lead. The skirmish did not last long, as Hickerson crashed his RM and left the two Honda riders to duel for the moto win. Villa nagged
Lehman closely for two laps before making his
move in the back section to take over the lead.
Meanwhile, Kukla had closed on Hickerson,
who had remounted but was struggling'in third.
When the white flag came out, Villa had pulled
out a three-second lead on Lehman, who was
still comfortably in second. Villa' didn't lead
every lap, but he did lead the last lap, and he
took the first-moto win over Lehman. Hickerson
was able to recover and salvage a third-place
finish. Kukla was fourth, while KTM-mounted
Daniel Coats rounded out the top five.
When mota two got under way, it was the
Suzuki of Hickerson out front with the holeshol.
Coats moved his machine into the second slot,
while Villa seWed into third. Pulver was fourth
and Lehman was fifth as the racers cleared
"Clutch-Kill Hill" on lap one. Hickerson's lead
was short-lived, though, as he bailed off in the
back section on la p two. Put ver he used the third
lap to move around Coats, who had inherited
the lead.
Villa, meanwhile, was involved in the Hicker~on miscue, and he had stalled his machine,
but he now rode in third. Lehman was fourth,
and Hickerson recovered in fifth. Villa turned up
the heat on his CR250, and just after the halfway
mark of the mota he passed Co.:'lts and took over
the second position. Over the next few laps, Pulver and ViUll argued over the lead as the two riders rode in close formation. Once again Villa
seemed to have a little more left at the end of the
mota, and when the white flag came out, he
went arou.nd Pulver to take over the lead.
At the checkers, it was Villa taking the win
to complete his perfect day. Pulver rode in for
second, while Hickerson charged around both
Lehman and Coats on the last lap to claim third.
Lehman was fourth, and Coats once again finished up in fifth.
On the doy, Villa's 1-1 tally was good for the
overall victory. Hickerson's 3-3 finishes earned
him the second spot, while Lehman's 2-4 scores
placed him third.
