KORR riders honored at awards ceremony • January 23, 1999 By Craig Cole HUTCHINSON, KS, JAN. 2 The 1998 KORR motocross and hare scrambles seasons came to a dose when the competitors and their families and friends gathered at the Ramada Inn in Hutchinson for the KORR awards banquet. Masters of Ceremonies Scooter Bell and Gary Hershberger passed out more than 200 trophies and plaques in front of a standing-room-only crowd that had had to brave icy streets and temperatl1res in the teens in order to attend. The biggest winners of the evening were Rider of the Year Jeremy Hitschman and Sportsman of the Yea.r Leon Williams. The two were chosen over dozens of other deserving riders because of their dedication not only to KORR but to the sport in general. Hitschman has raced in the KORR series with his dad, Marlin, for several years. Williams attends every race. This season, he finished third in the very competitive 250cc C class and took top honors (along with Greg Gilman) in the Vet two-man hare scrambles class. Add in his son Andy's 80ec cllarnpionship, and it was a very gratifying evening for the Williams family. Other special awards went to Robert SP\'ar, Todd Dicke, Rick Bachman and Todd Webb. Spear, the 60cc champion, was named Rider of the Year for bikes under 125cc, while Dicke got the nod for riders of bikes over 250cc. A surprised Bachman was named the hare scrambles Rider of the Year, and Webb was rewarded for accumulating the most points throughout the C. year.
