Nick Met calf made th e best of his fir st KORR
race as a Pro by winning every mot a he en ter ed,
including th e half-time Da sh For Cash, at th e
FaB C ha m p io ns hi ps held at Green Acr es MX
Pa rk . But th e recently cro w ned AMA 125cc B
Cha mp ion - ridi ng tw o Suz ukis so new the y had
his n umber on e ha ndwritten on otherwise blank
number plates - wou ld have to w ork for ea ch
chec kered flag.
Ka w a sa k i-mounted Matt Smith took th e
hol eshot in th e firs t 125cc A rnot o, but he was
q u ickl y o ver ta ke n b y M arc Gi fford a n d h is
Yamaha, w ith Metcalf a close third. Smi th and
Metcalf cras hed hard as they battled for seco nd
early in the firs t lap , allowing the rest of the field
to jet by . Smith quickly remoun ted , but Me tcalf
had to dodge onco mi ng traffic befor e he co uld
pi ck up his bike and rejoin the race.
9 ifford had a hu ge lead over Cory Grove as
the fir s t lap ca m e to a n e nd . M e t calf, a fte r
restartin g last, had used the infield section of the
track to his adva n tage and w as a lready up to
third , wi th Sm ith a close four th . Sm ith wo uld
mak e a run a t Metcalf d own the d yk e st ra ight,
but he would not be able to threaten again. By
the sta rt of the third lap , bot h Metcalf and Smith
had passed Grove, relega ting him to four th.
Th e final lap sa w Gifford still u p fron t, but
Metcalf was starting to apply so me seriou s pressure. The rid er fro m Ulysses , Kansas, made the
f'<, ss for the lead at the end of the dy ke straight
and too k the chec kers goi ng away. Giffo rd held
on to seco nd, with Sm ith comi ng hom e thi rd .
Metcalf barely had the holeshot over Smith in
moto two, but tha t was all he need ed , as he wo uld
lead the res t of the race uncha llenged. Gifford and
Smith w oul d d uplica te their second- and third place finishes from mota one in moto two.
In the 250cc A race, Met cal f had to chase
Smi th thruugh most of the first mot o before taking the cht. ekered. flag in the lead . Mo to two saw

To cap off the weekend in 'lyle, Metcalf added
the Dash For Clsh win to his four mo ta and two
overall wins and left the park wi th the lion' s share
of the Pro purse - not bad for his Pro debu t.

Leckner for second. At the sta rt of lap four, Tony
Koehn had w orked his way u p to third as Hol m
continued to stretch out his alrea dy comforta ble
lead . The front thr ee held their po siti ons to the
checkered flag.

Fortner' s firs t win and fas t Amat eu r time
came in the 250cc class , in which he also turned
a 4 ,222~second tim e on hi s Su zuki RM250. The
rid e ca me in second- ro und ac tio n, as he ca me
fro m behind to o ve rta ke Good ma n, who had
ca rd ed. a very good 4.252- second tim e o n his
KX250 to tak e the class lead and move up bri efly
o n t he fast- ti me bubble . To m Dani els , Ga ry

Goodman, ho w ever, wa s faster than either
Fortner or Riddell, as he set the overall fast time
with a 4 .212-se cond run i n th e Stoc k cl a ss
aboard his new C RSOO. ·Fortner finis hed. secon d
on his CR250, w ell off Goodman's tim e, with a
4.729. Edmison ca me next, wi th Jason Chesney
and C hris Jes ter following.
Fortner" s seco nd win came in the always fast
and tough 600cc class, but he put that win in his
pocket wit h his first rid e, a 4.339-second ru n on
his CRSOO. No o ne could match tha t time, but
Honda-mounted Scott Pet ty was clos e with his
4.367. Roger Riddell [r., Scott Pierce and Darrell
Trent filled out the top five.
In ot her Ama te u r-class action, Jason Rieck
claimed the 200cc win, wi th Ed miso n in seco nd ,
w h ile Bren t Ste w art took th e 400cc w in w ith
John Potter behind. John Hillard won the 750cc
class, jus t ah ead of Fortner. Green claim ed the
Pushrod victory, with Sco tt Sheets second, and
Sco tt Pier ce w on th e Sen io r class, with Gayle
Jenkins ta king seco nd .
In Youth racing, Taylor Bruce clai med the
SOcc-class win wit h a n 8 1-fo o t effo r t o n hi s
Honda, w hile Blake Cappello claimed seco nd on
his Lem with a 75-foo l run. N ick Mayo to pped
the hill in 5.418 seco nd s o n his CRBO to take the
BScc-class win, w ith Jar ed Hayes claiming the
seco nd- place tr ophy o n his KX80 w ith a 6.337seco nd tim e.
