OCT. 25 aryl Ecklund proved to be kin g of the 80cc ma chines, topping both the 80cc Open /Expert and Supermini cla sses, whil e Bry an McGavran continued hi s domination of la te by winning the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes during the Pj l-sponsored four th and final roun d of GFI Racing's annual Fall Series at Co mpetitio n Park. Eck lund s tarted off his day with a w ire -to-wire wi n in th e firs t 80cc Open /Ex pert class on his Cha parra l/ Goat /Noleen-sponsored YZSO. Mat th ew Prochnavy kept Ecklu nd in sig ht en route to his second-place finis h, well ahea d of An thony Bruscella and Nick Alvarez. Gritton dogged Ecklund throughout the race and used a last -lap pass for th e first-mo te win . Simon go t around Pa yne, on ly to go down and have to fig ht h is way b ack up to a n eighth-place finis h. Brandon Schlensig o verca me a mid pack st art to ho ld off Payne and Jason Jeffrey for thi rd . In second-ro und action, Gritton had the quickest reflexes out of the ga te to lead Simo n an d Schlens ig. Ecklun d was stu ck in traffic for a lap before finding his pace and ree lin g in Gri tto n. By lap three the race belon ged to Ecklund. Gritton would go 1-2 for second overall. Th ir d in the fina l standings w e n t to Schlens ig w ith a 3-4 score. . The 20-m in u te, one-sho t 125cc Pro m ot o was a M cGa v ran ben efit. Th e Fox/NCY/ VP-backed 16-year -old rookie Pro grabbed the lead on th e opening lap a nd never look ed ba ck . jerry A leman was buried in the field off the start bu t meth od icall y pic ked off riders, th e last bei ng Tyson Taylor on the 14th lap of the 16-lap race, to collec t the seco nd- Bryan McGavran blasted the competition into the weeds ' at the fina l round of the GFI Fall Series at Competition Park, The 16-year-old rookie Pro tagged the overa ll wins in the 125 and 250cc Pro classes, place mon ey. A tro ublesom e o pe ning lap for Jerem y Cha ussee saw him runnin g a t th e back of the pack, but he, too, spent his 20 mi n u tes pa ssing riders to ea rn fourth, a h ea d of j a s on Dubi n and Do nova n Mitchell. Af ter a mid pack start, KTMrid er Barrett sli ced his way through 'the field to get around Travis Smith on th e last la p to sew up seco nd overall with a 4-2 performance. M il stead and Hern andez record ed DNFs, which allow ed McCown to jump int o third ove rall w ith 5-5 finis hes. Kane jameson had the track wired on hi s John Burr Cvcles /IMS /Go at / Wiseco / A farn-spons ored YZl25 for the 125cc ovi ce-class first-mote win over Matt Condon and Richard Albach. Condon returned to lead every lap of th e second moto on his Yama ha to claim the overall honors . Ja m es o n and Al bach trad ed the ru nner-u p position during the race, with jameson coming out on top' for the second -place trophy. David Su llins' 6-4 score edged out th e 4-6 of Chad Gaumer for fourth overall. It wasn't even close in the firs t 60cc Open rnoto, as KX60-mounted Cas Swift won by a mi le. Ro berto Jiron held off Casey Huntl ey and Jerem y Johnso n for second . Th e second rnot o wa s a little m ore of a race, even th ou gh' th e outcome was the same, with Swift go ing 1-1 on the day. Iron kept Swift in sight this time out en ro ute to his seco nd- p lace finish , this time over John son. Tyler D un ca n turned a co u pl e of good starts into a 1-1 performan ce in the 80cc In termediate class o n h is p PG /Troy Lee /Silkolene-backed YZSO. Simon and Gritton traded ru nner-up finis hes, wi th Si mon p revailing in the second round to collect the second-place brass. Zac Wray and Schlensig ro un ded out the top five in a class d om inated by th e blue bikes . Spen cer Meineke do mi na ted the first BOec Novice moto. Swift returned on his RM80 to finish a d istant seco nd over Phillip Brus cella a n d Ke vin H u nt e r. Mein ek e would duplicate his fine firstround showing w ith a ga te-to- flag second -mo to romp.
