VuiIlemin could not have wished for a greater victory, claiming his first major 250cc supercross win and, in doi ng so, takin g the early lead in the four-round series. "I have wo n so me 125c c ra ce s i n America a nd in the World Motocross Cha mpionship, but th is. is my first on the 250s. It gives me a gre at feeling for next yea r," sa id Vu iIle mi n, w ho will race the 1999 Worl d 250cc Motocro ss Championship. Th is year's World Su pe rcross Cha mpionship has been one of the real questions marks in European off-road racing. . When the series wa s first taken over by promoters the Action Group, it was conside red a grea t move. Top names were put on the billin g for the opening round, and with a track that wa s styled on the famo us L.A. Coliseu m, it wa s expected to be the g re a tes t Su pe rcross Europ e J (Top ) David Vulllemin fought through the slop in Paris to win the opening round of the Wor ld Supercr oss Champi onship. (Left) Ryan Hughes (ri ght) slammed into th is un identifiable rid er after landing off a jump. Hughes ended up fifth.
