competition an d those of the spec tators as North
Ca rolina series regu lar Jim Chester a nd Tennessee native Jon Boruff spli t the mon ey in the
two Pro classes. Along the way, the two rid ers
also-ga rnered an other class win api ece.
As the gate dropped a t the start of the first
250cc Pro moto, it was Sitec Racing /Works Connection /Yamaha-mounted Mark Wagn er grab-bing the lead . Kingsport Suz uki /Fleshgear/Pro
Action's jon Boruff was hot on his heels, closely
followed by AI Lane Kawasaki /Yamaha /MSR's
Brian Lane, Charlotte Yamaha /Performance Friction / Acerbis' Chu ck Shirley and Suzuki of Gastonia /Barr's Benji Rutledge. Boruff wa sted little
time and passed Wagner before th e end of the
first lap . From there the Clint on, Tennessee, rider
established a lead that he wouldn't relinquish.

Not wan ting to let Boruff get a way like he
did in the first moto, Ches ter easily grabbed the
ho les ho t in motu two. Qu ick -startin g Wagn er
was seco nd, wit h Shirley and Rutled ge in tow.
First -mo to winn e r Boruff, m e an whil e, was
mired in mi d pack. Che ster jumped out to th e
earlv lead an d held it to the finish .
Shi rley a nd Rutled ge ma de qu ick work of
Wa gne r and tr ied in va in to keep up w ith
Ches ter. Boruff, mea nw hile, was slowly wo rking
his way th rou gh the pac k and wa s up to th ird
by the ha lfway ma rk . By thi s point, th e two
front-ru nne rs seemed to have enough cu sh ion
over Boru ff, but he had other ideas, an d ' he
slow ly reeled in Shirl ey a nd mad e his pass on
the back stra ight just before the wh ite flag flew.
Boruff then m ade a run a t Ch es te r, who
slowed his pace on the final lap - all the while
keeping tabs on the Suzuki rider. Chester held
on for the win, with Boruff coming up short in
his bid - allowin g Chester to take the overall
win . Rou nd ing out the top five were Shirley,
Ru tledge and Hod ock, who kept the pressure on
fo r fo u rth place fo r the en tire mo to but wa s
unable to make the pass.
Boru ff ended up winning bo th 125cc Pro
mo to s, toppi ng Sh irley. Ches te r, Black and
Hud ock in moto one befo re bea ting Chester in
moto two .
Boruff took his other class win in the Fou rStroke class with a 2-1 m:>to tally. Ches ter's
o the r w in ca me in the O ver 25 A div ision .

Whitcraft also conquered the Schoolboy class, in
which favorite Mike Ca mpbell went 1-9 for fifth
and Jason Wade went 2-2 for second. The evercons istent Whitcraft sliced his F&S Suzuki 125 in
for the win via his 2-] performance.
