Morais turned in tw o consis tent m o tos a nd e nd ed the da y with a we ll-d eserved 1-2 tally to bea t th e likes of Kelly Quinn and Chris Vendley. Morais' toughest competition, Ran d y Norman, pu lled off the track in th e first moto w ith a mech ani cal problem, bu t he came back to beat Mor ais in the second m o to . Unfo rtunately , a d isappoin ted No rman cou ld o nly m uster up a six th ove ra ll with his 12-1 moto score. More th an 250 rid er s m ade it ou t to th e fi na l round , a nd t he A M P crew m ade sure they rode o n the (as u su al) meticulou sly prepped Oatfield Raceway track. A s Norm an and Morais entered the w hoop sec tion side by side, Mo ra is s ki p ped a cr os s ju st a li t tl e smoothe r and exited in th e lead . Norman a p pea red to be a little hes itan t as he co ntin ued to make hi s way aro u nd to complete lap one . However, as he crossed the finish-line jump, he kep t lookin g dow n at his fro nt w heel, and soon he pulled off the track in d isg ust . The cu lprit w as a broken fron tbrake ca lip er bol t . For th e res t o f th e moto, Norman sa t helpl essly on the side of the tr ack with his fro nt ca liper dangling, waiting for th e checker ed flag . Meanwhile, Morais was on a tear as he opene d a siza ble lead over Kawasakimounted And lovec. Andlovec soo n ha d a challenge for seco nd in the fo rm of Q uinn and Vend ley, howev er . The trio battled for a few laps, w ith Vendley the firs t to los e a li t tle g ro u n d . Quin n , backed by Cl a wson Motorsports, Fox an d MFM, then m ade a bo ld move o n Andlovec wit h a pass on the b a ck straig htaway. The move put Quinn in seco nd, and the Suzuki rider quickly put so m e d is ta nce between himself a nd And lovec. However, And lovec soon found a rejuvenated Vendley right on h is tail, a n d h e had brou ght alon g A xo / Maxima / Powerhouse Yamaha .der Jerem y Santoro - just to make it interesting. And interesting it was, as Quinn w ent d own before a tabletop, allow ing Andlovec, Vendley and Santoro to scoot past. Vendley and Santoro then turned up tlie heat and the d uo passed Andlovec. As the race came to a close, Mo rais put it o n cru ise control w ith a healthy lead over Vendley , Santoro, And lovec and Quinn. Andlovec, however, ran in to trouble on a tricky rig ht-h an d er a nd went down, han d in g fo u rth to Q ui nn, who had reco vered quickly fro m hi s earli er fall. Suzuki -mounted Die ter Tern merman w ou ld inherit th e fifth po sition as he wisely kept u p his pace the entire mo to to pass the downed Andlovec, The moto end ed with Morai s taking th e checke red flag well ah ead of Vendley, Santoro, Quinn and Temrnerrnan. "I got a bad start out of the gate but found s o me go od lines out there," Morais sa id : "Th e track's st ill a little Cory Morais raced to victory in the always-eompetitive 250cc Intermediate class at the final round of the GA Fall MX Se ries at Oalfield Racewa y. loose an d th e lines were changing, bu t with a comfy lead, I just rod e safe. " Ve n d ley , ba cked b y G o od Ti me Kawasaki / Su zuki, was sa tis fie d with his second -place finish. " I h ad a n inside ga te a n d n ot too good of a st art," said Vendley. "Once I got in seco n d a n d s a w th at C ory (Morais) was go ne, I just tried to rela x and stay ah ead of Santoro." Santoro, w ho had finis hed third in the firs t moto, went dow n in the th ird tu m . Norman, with a now solid ly attached fro nt caliper, m a d e a pass on Wikoff over th e step-up ju mp to quickly take over the lead. Norman looked fast as he sepa rated himself from th e rest of th e pack. However, Morais had plans to reel in Norman, and he first d isplaced Vendle y with a bold inside m ove that sen t Vendley off the track temporarily, and th en he outjumped Wikoff down the long downhill double to take over second. However, Norman had opened up a si zable lead and had hi s o w n plans, which did no t i nclude dicing wi th Morais. Just as Morais appeared to be gaining on No rman, Norman turned it up a n o tch . Th is kept Mo rais d igg in g lap af ter lap, which in tum provided him wi th a comfortabl e second place. Back in th e pack, Merced Powersports /FMF / Union 76-backed Craig Truglio was qui ck ly m a kin g h is way up after a mediocre start. In fact. Truglio pulled in behind Wikoff by the third lap to secure fou rth. Meanwhile, Vendley had faded back to fift h and w as in a battle with Quinn when the tw o came into a tu rn side by side. The result w as that Quinn exited in fifth, leaving Vend ley behind on the ground. Vendley remounted, bu t not until he had been passed by a reju - venate d Sa n toro. Th e w hite flag ca me o u t w it h th e top five .posit ions pretty well spaced o u t. H o w eve r , Tru gli o wasn 't sa tisfied wi th fourth, and he ou tjumped Wikoff over the finish-line ju m p to take third . The checkered flag ca me o u t and greeted N o rm an w ith a wellea rn e d wi n, fo llowed by M o r a is , Truglio, Wikoff an d Quinn. Morai s, feelin g his pass o n Ven dl ey was fairly clean, felt good about his performance on the day. "That last m oto was a litt le tougher," Mo rais said . "I showed Vend ley a fro nt w heel a co u p le of tim es and co u ldn't find anywhere to pass him. I fina lly saw an opening o n the inside of the turn befo re th e triple an d too k it." Quinn, who ea rned seco nd overall w ith a 4-5 moto score, had jus t recently turned Intermediate. "T he track got a little hard-packed and the ru ts w ere getting pretty nasty," Quinn s aid .
