CMC Sunstar Sprockets Trans-Cal Nationals, Round 4 By To ny Aless i PALMDALE, CA, OCT. 4 hris Gosselaar raced like a modern -day Gu y Cooper en route to wins in both the 125 and 250cc Pro cla ss es during round four of the CMC Sunstar Sp rockets Trans-Cal Na tiona ls, held at Los Angeles County Raceway. The 125cc Pro race had all the ingredients of a pa y-per-vi ew even t, as the rooki es took on the seasoned veterans. The two futu re sta rs started banging on one another. First Gosselaar took a line from Payne; then Payne retaliated by shoving Gosselaar off the course. Gosselaar finall y ended by putting Payne on the ground just before the bridge jump. "Yeah, we were getting into one another pretty good out th ere" Payne said. "He's actually a pretty fast rider, but he swa ps a lot when he's in front of you. Fortunately, most of the time I am in front." Go s sel a ar w e n t on to fi n is h th ird beh ind Lytle and Chaussee, while Payne returned to the pits with a badly damaged motorcycle. "I knew I had the overall, but I wanted to win:' In t h e end , G o s s el aar' s mistake dropped him to third , behind Tim Lan gdon, but it was still eno ug h for the ov erall win . When the dust settled, Gosse laa r was given the victory with a 3-3 tally, toppi ng Lytl e' s 2-4, Langdon' s 7-2, Do ug Parson's 6-5 and KTM rider Mark Tilley. Gosselaar and Payn e returned in the 250cc Pro race , and it was the clash of the glad iators all over.
