Another Italian bike company set to change hands is Bimota, which (as was reported a couple of months ago in th is space) has now been put up for sale by woodworking-machinery giants SCM , whose controlling sharehold ers, the Aureli famil y, have kept the troubled specia list firm afloat in the wake of the disaster that production of the Vdue two-stroke sportbike has undoubtedly represented. ~ Though Moto Guzzi, Aprilia and BMW (for whom Bimota designed the chassis package of the K1200RS) have all taken a look at buying the company befo re eventua lly declining, the man spearheading the grou p of investors now likely to enter into a partnershi p with the Aurelis to completely restructure Bimota an d se t it on th e s traigh t an d na rrow again can now be na me d : Veneto-based textile mill ionaire Francesco Tog non . Yes, that's right: the same man who rescu ed Laverda and se t it on the pa th to its present comeback to profi tability.
