Glen Pe tty Jr. was the fina l rid er of

smooth ride on his firs t pass bu t fell a t
the top . Petty was unhurt and his 6.465
was just a warmup for the Indi ana pol is
rid er.
Dresse r's seco nd run saw him come
off the lin e too hard a nd ge t crooked,
and he cou ld n't recover qu ickly enou gh
to pick up a faster tim e. His first run's
6.322 wa s .027 of a second better than
his second rid e, and he claimed fou rth .
" I' m happy with th e wa y the bike
ran, tho ugh I co u ld' ve geared it up: '

today - it was just their day."
Templeton wa s the next contender to
come to the line.
"I had a real good line bu t I wheelied
an d had to shu t it off: ' Templeton said .
"We got two good rid es in today, so it
was a good day. I'm really ge tting used
to the bike now."
His 6.264-seco nd first-ro u nd effo rt
took third overall.
Mike DeBusk gave it everyth ing he
had on his second cha nce at the 300-foot
hill and he stop ped the timers with a
6.657-second rid e to ta ke six th, beh ind
Castled ine. Castledi ne ha d a crowdpleasing ride on his second try.
"I concentrated on the holeshot and it
went right up the middle; the n I caug ht
ai r on th e little b rea ker: ' Cas tledine
said. "When I hit it, the bike w heelied
over the last jump."
He cras hed at the lights but his 6.538
earned him a top-five finish .
Petty came to the line knowing that

Large was awarded his nu m ber-on e
plate afte r the eve nt.
"Tom (Reiser> a nd I reall y cli cked
this yea r, and m y wife help ed so mu ch, "
Large said . "She kept me calmed d own
and on track. I cou ld n't have as ked for a
bett er year. Now I can go to the Devil's
Stair case and rid e to win. That'll be a lot
eas ier than last year, wh en I had to rid e
