" Bigelow sa id. -Well. it was better. than Springfield - that's , pretty much the best I can put it. Once you start' in.the back. I have a hard time playing catch-up on the miles. It gets real light there the fi rst few Besides collecting the $5370 first -place money. a win for Scott P a rk er laps . and I have a really hard time charging in a big pack like that. It was a Brieflv... was important as the number of win s is the first tie breaker if th e ser1e s points race should ' end up tied . Parker now .has six w ins with two races remaining. Chris Carr has three . Hich King two and WillDavis four. Parker is five points up on Carr and eight on King.' and Davis is just nine behind Parker. In 1991. Parker and Carr tied with 225 points . but the title went to Park er and his' six wi ns over Carr' s four win s . lot better aft er the rain. There were a few more lines out there. On ce I started an the third row. and I was behind. that was pretty hard to catch up for me. The last few laps I totaily last my tire - it was cornpletely bald. I was gaining. gaining. gaining. then the last few laps I was' almost cras hing. crashing. crashing. I felt like this one was going to be our loughest out here . and :.ve got away with a few points and only two mare left. I can' t wait. - Saddlemen/Moroney's Harley-Davidson 's Dave Camlin re turned to ac tio n, but he was obviously was still affected by his arm injury. "lt's the vibration that bothers me the most." Camlin said. "It' s not reallypain. but it' s like my arm goes numb after a few,laps.- Camlin jus t missed making . the Nalional with a fourth in his heat and a fifth in his semi. M ichelle Di salvo made her 750cc Grand Nation al debut an a Mllchell's Harley-Davidson of Modesto/ Lee Barnes /Mom & Dad-backed Harley. Mechanical problems slowed her night. as she faiied to finish her heat and came home 12th in her semi. .. . W ill Davis was showing himself httle mercy after the race . - I know five 'more laps would have really' helped." Davis said. -I was passing guys at the s tart/ finish nne. and I was gelling through the comers good enough. I think I could have picked up the draft off Morehead and tho se guys. Not to say I could have passed Ihem - five more (laps) would have helped but I knew there was 20 going in. so that ain't what hurt. MIssing second . gear . that' s what killed me. I know I'm still only nine points out of f rst, i that' s not what I'm disappointed about. Earlier. I was 53 points aut and .made that up. I'm nat as disgusted about the nine points as I am abo ut this motorcycle race. I was fast enough to win the Sacramento Mile . and that was our game plan coming in here to 'start' with. I blew it. We were . fast enough . That 's consolation. I guess. I just hate when I do that to myself. right at the starting line. something dumb like that. It's hard to deal Johnny Murphee;' . the 1997 AMA Grand National Rookie of the Year. has landed a new ride for the remainder of 1998 'a nd all of 1999.
