Series s ponso r Matt H ilgenberg earned the Prem ier Heavyweight Expert win wi th a score of t I on his Ariel , w hile Ron Winget's BSA Gold Star took the Intermed iate and Matchless-mou nted Jim BoIIingm o was the top Novice . If th ere were a long -d istance aw a rd, it would h ave gone to T.V. Myers, w ho came from Australia to take d elivery of a Dick Mann-bu ilt Gold Sta r just tw o d a ys before riding to fourth pl ace in Premi er Heavyweight No vice. The Classic Expert class was notable fo r a couple of re asons . One was the close battle for the win between Greeves rid er Bob Ginde r and Dennis Burnett on a rare GRM. Gi nder edged out Burn ett by a sing le point, 21-22, after the latter had a bad third loop and Ginder turned in his day' s best card . The class also included th ree riders v yi ng for the Steambo at Iron Man award : John LeFevre, Rob ert Borg and Brad Kenna rd. Altho ug h none of them are normall y Expe rt-level trials riders, th e Iron Man ru les require tha t contestants ride at their highes t skiIl level in all even ts, and a ll three are ranked as Experts in AHRMA motocross. LeFevre, making his d ebut as a trials rider and en tering on the first H usqvarn a tri aler that most people ha d ever seen, distinguished himself with a third -place finish in Classic Expert , wh ile Ossa-mounted Kenn ard was fourth and Borg was fifth with h is Sa face n.
