North Ca ro li na , rider Eric Cox may have just come to terms wi th B-class motocross racing in the Sou theast. Cox piloted his Yamaha YZl25 to a co uple of hard-fou ght overa ll victorics at the fina l ro u nd of th e Ball ze e G rand Cha m p ions hi p Series in grand sty le. Cox advanced earlie r in the se ason a nd has bee n stead ily ch ipping a wa y a t th e co m petition wi th a m ot a win h er e a nd th er e. On this d ay, w hich was mad e for racin g, he put it a ll together and to o k top ho nors in the 125cc B cla ss with a double moto s w ee p . Cox w ould ba ck it up w ith the Unlimited B/ C ove rall wi th his ta lly of 1-2. Sha ne Di Pasqu al e mov ed up to th e AA class and led the cha rge on his Santa Fe Cycle Gas Ga s. Jim Bra wn er of w ich ita ran second while Klimm climbed u p through th e pack a fter s ta rt i ng la st o n a borrowed YZ4 00F. DiPasquale pulled a co m fo rta b le lead w hile Klimm got by Brawner and tried to settle into a fast pac e. " l sold my KX last week and J'm waiting o n my new bike - p roba bly a KTM," Klimm said later . " I was h Ying trouble getting used to this 400, but by the end of the race I felt pr etty comfortable on it." As the final laps of the two-ho u r race app roached . Klimm whittled away at Dif'asqu ale's lead . With half a lap to go, Klimm slammed the door on Dif'asqua le going into the woods , taking over the lead for the n.. of the race. est "1 wan ted to w i n. that ra ce rea l bad ," Di Pasqua le Sol id , "bu t I was just too tired to hang on a t the en d ." Another strong performan ce came from Bw class points lead er Larry Barger . Aaron Hall led the class with Barger in tow for mos t of the race. Both rid ers mov ed past the A-class rid ers in their heated bat tle. Barger made a daring pass going into the scoring area, with onl y a I.1p to go. Barger sec u red th e lead and the win, finishi ng fifth out of all the classes for the day, "I thou ght we wer e o n the last lap, " Barger explai ned , "so I ma d e'a banzai pass at the finish. It turned ou t we had ano the r lap to go, so I had to really push to stay ahea d of Hall." In a season-long battl e with riding pal Mark Brunk, Topeka Cycle's Kevin Long came away with the 2.. E;()cr-class win . On the start. Rvan Weidner grabbed the holcshot. Long block-passed Weid ner in a turn heading into th e woods. Soon after, Brunk pa ssed Weidner, reeling in Long and pushing hard 10 the last lap . Brunk tipped ove r, lett ing Long cru ise in for the win ~ and the edge.in the series point cha se.
