H·D of Missouri's Joe Kopp reported that he is all set to move back to his home in Micah, Wash· ington, as Missouri life didn't agree with him as well as he had hoped. - We got the truck loaded, and we're leaving afte r the race: Kopp said, "We' re gOIng back for the winter. but maybe we'll try it again next summer." . Two-time AMA We st Coast Flat Track Series event winner Steve M a yfield landed a 750cc ride for the Springfield Mi le.' The Californian, who co-promo tes a few California event s- of his own with friend and partner Chris Carr, was aboard one of Jaime Aguilar' s Rocklin Harley-Davidson rides, and then later rode hIS semi on a-Tirn Torrecillas-owned Turbo Blue Honda, " It's been a while since I went this fast,- Mayfield said, - But I'm havin' fun: I don't expect to do too well. I just want to have a good time and do the best that I can." Mayfie ld 'wound up 12th in the third semi. Summer vacation is over for J .R . Schnabel , as the Team Powell rider is all set to head back to the University of Oshkosh. Wiscon sin, to pursue his degree in business . - I'm ready to go back : Schnabel said. " I'm done' wo rking for the summer. and now I'd like to get back to school. I like it. It's fun, I've got four more years to go. This (racIng) is just a hobby for me. R After riding his Schmulbach Racing XR750 in Saturday's Hall of Fame Race, AMA Grand National Rookie of the Year Johnny Murphree was found aboard one of Dan Stanley's Gardner Ritcing back -ups afte r a di sagreement w ith A MA offic ials over teardown procedures saw M urphree team owner Fred Sc hmulbach pack up the equipment, leaving Murphree rideless for Sunday, "Fred 's decided to take the rest of the weeken d off ," Murphree said, "There was a bit of controversy over our teardown, 'and I gues s he' s done, It' s not that he's unhappy with me. - This was not the first time that Murphree had climbed aboard a Gardner bike, He rode one at the Hagerstown Half Mile after his regular ride broke dow n, "The (Gardner) bike is real consistent," Mu rphree said, - We just have to get it dialed in and we 'll be there," Unfort unately, Murphree bowed out with a sixth·place finish in the second se mi, Rich King was back to his old self in the pits on Sunday aft er suffe'ring the bitter pill of his fourt hplace finish in the Dirt Track Hall of Fame Race on Saturday; - I feel good today ," King said. AMA officials disqualified the machine aft er it was found that the charging system was not getting juice to the battery . even 't hough the altemator was putt ing out the required energy, After careful inspection, it was. detE7rmined that debris had somehow severed some of the bike 's wiring during the racing action, Instead of a disqualilication , the AM A imposed a $50 fine,
