MOTOCROSS AMAlMAZDA TRUCK N N CHAMPIONSHIP ATIO AL 250cc MX SERIES .:.':';.';" ' ::'!'" .•.c-; . . " MOTOTWO Once again, Henry an d his thumper smoked everyone to the first turn in the second moto. "Usu ally I d on 't do too good righ t o ut of th e gate, " Henry said of h is holesh ot. "Usually I pull at the end of th e straigh t; today, I came ou t of th e ga te smooth and straig ht. We had a differe nt Brid geston e tire tod ay." H o w ev er, once 'a g a in H enr y was passed in the tou gh , sand-wash whoo p section on the first lap, but this tim e it was Lusk who go t around h im . After th e firs t lap, it was Lusk leading the w ay, followed by Henry, Ernig, Alb ertyn, War d, Picho n and Voss. Position s up 'front didn't cha nge at all until the fifth lap , when Emig slipped by Henry for second and then, a lap later, Albertyn also got by Henry for third . The lead gro u p remained close, and th i n g s go t even closer w hen Em ig pulled up alo ngsi de 1:'f Lusk, and that 's wh en Lusk suddenly went down . And Albertyn saw the whole thing happen right in front of him. "He (Lusk) cross-ru tted, and I mean th e bik e pitch ed him lik e a ca ta pu lt," A lbertyn sai d . "H e w ent down hard, very hard . I don' t know, but they (Emig and Lusk) might' ve touc hed ." "No, we d idn' t tou ch ," Lu s k said after the race , w ith his in jured arm sub- . mer ged in a n ice chest, "bu t w e wer e side by side. I came ou t of a ru t (an d) go t out of sha pe. I just starte d losing s t re ng t h a n d co u ld n' t h old o n. I should' ve back ed down, but I didn't want to give it up that easy." Asked if he had perhaps redamaged his arm in the fall, he repli ed , "I don't know, bu t it hurts pretty good ." Lusk finished ou t the moto in 14th. Meanwhil e, Alber tyn had suddenly found himself in second and was chal len ging Emig for the lead , but the Suzu ki rider wou ld also go d own - in the whoops. " It was ju st a silly mi stake on m y p art ," Albertyn said . "I pulled the front wheel a littl e too hi gh in the w hoops and actually mistim ed it. The rear wheel went right down into the bo ttom of the w hoop, and it pit ched me over the bars. I wa s a little sha ken up, and I was mad that I crashed." Alberty n go t back up qu ickly, bu t not before He nry and Picho n ha d both ridden past him. W hen Alber ty n wen t down, Em ig sudden ly fo u nd himself with a comma nd in g 10-s eco nd lead over a nowbattling He nry and Pichon . A ways back chased Albertyn , w ho now had a poors ta rting I.1Rocco loo ming la rge in his rear-view mirror. Following LaRocco at a d ist ance was Ward , w ho cou ld he ar Hughes rapidl y approaching. The Henry / Pichon dogfight went on an d on , but Pichon just could not pu t a d ent into the tw o-secon d ba rrier th at separated the two riders. With two laps to go, Pichon launched off the downhill double, clipping th e s ide of the tr ack, and went cartwheeling down to the bo ttom . The French rider would lie there on the track for a w hil e before ge tting up and walki ng back to the pits . "Man, I'm so pissed off," Pichon later s a id . "T h a t (n u m b er) 65 lapp e r - I cra sh ed because o f him . On the very top , he wa s pretty cool at first; he let me go by going to the outsid e. Then, when we get to the end of the turn, I'm getting rea dy to go for the doubles, the n he' s like racing me. He jumped the first dou- • ble with me, and then he goes from right ':~"':~" f:.~~t~·~: to left, so I did, too. So when we go t to the big double, I'm not so straight on the takeoff. I landed two feet off the side of the tra ck a nd the bike ju st stopped . Luckily it slowed do wn my crash . I hurt my wrist a little - scrapes - bu t I thou ght I bro ke my arm at first . I couldn't feel anything." In the remaining couple of laps, the b attlin g Alb ertyn and LaRocco h a d caught Hen ry, bu t time had ru n out, as Emig took his second wi n of the day, followed by Henry, Albertyn, LaRocco, and ' a d ist an t Ward . Righ t behind hi m finished Hugh es, while nearly half a lap down in seventh came Voss, closely followed by Dostal. Dem erit a nd Up to n rou nded ou t the top 10. "I was mor e p atien t," Emig sa id of his second-moto w in. "1 was agg ressi ve, bu t I d idn't go nuts. I knew w he re to make my passes. Once 1 wa s ou t front, [ cou ld pick my lines, stay relaxed , and save some energy ." Second -placed He nr y said, "1 tried to stay w ith Ezra early on - 1 heard he got tired in the first mo to, so I wa s going to stick beh ind him - and then Jeff got me . [ thought 1 wou ld follow his lines, but he w a s ri din g r eally goo d. Then Greg ended up ge tt ing by me. I was beh ind th ose thr ee, just s it tin g th ere; the n I ca me a roun d a co r ne r and Lusk is d own, I come aro u n d another co rner and Albee (Alber tyn) is d own . Pichon came up on me, so I put a charge on, put my head do wn, and he ended up go ing down.
