He cou ld only mu ster the latter, as third-overall Tyson Hadsell was the la s t- m o to vi ctor , but it wa s s till enough for Me tcalf to ge t the 125cc B Modi fied title. O regon's Mike Co rder was the top 250cc/Open B Stock rid er on a Kawasaki KX250, edging East Coast riding star Chris Hunter in the finale after the two sp lit firs t- a n d seco nd-mota wi ns . Hunter ended up second overall on his Hon da, w hile Michigan 's Jaso n McDonald place d third . In the 250cc /Open C class, Michi gan 's Joey Sly wo n tw o of th ree heats to better Suz u ki-mo u n ted Ryan Metzler and 40 others. In th e firs t-ever Fou r-St ro ke class, ama teu r-racing legend Kevin Foley of Colorado (by way of Florida) appear ed to have his eigh th career Lorett a Lynn' s ' cha mpionship in the bag going in to the fina l moto, but Michigan's Jason Vieno t thou ght otherw ise and sna tched the title from Foley in the final-m oto showdown . Vienot went 2-2-1 to Foley's 4-1-2. Firstmoto winner Zeb Ar ms tro ng of Nevada . was third overall wi th a 1-4-5 score card . , After 13 ye ars o f vis iti ng Loretta Lynn's Ranch, Minn esota-born /Pennsylva nia -based Pro -Ac tio n rider Sh ell y Karin fin all y go t he rs elf the Women' s 125cc-class championship wi tha solid 12-1 outing to bett er Florida's Jessica Patterson and Texas motocrosser Dee Ann Wood . Kann took advan tage of a firstmoto spill by defending class champion . Kristy Shealy that sidelined the numberone girl for the rest of the week. For the first time ever, the AMA also offer ed a j ,I 1 Women's class for 85-to -l05cc mach inery, and the win ner here was Michigan's Sara h Wh itmore. The Yamaha-moun ted Whitmore edge d Ohio's Tiffany Reed by winning the last two motos, . Altho ug h he d id not win two titles as Morais di d in the older classes, Florida 's Jam es Stewart w as d efini tely the most visible rid er in the you nge r 85cc gro u ps. Th e FMF / Fox / Oakley /Team G reenbacked Stewart topped the 85cc (9-13! Modified class with one of the ra re perfect scores during a competit ive week. Th e Kawasaki-mou nted Stewart was tr ail ed by Costa Rican Edgardo Rojas a nd California's Sh ane Bess. Ce rnic's Racing / FMF / Axe-backed Ge ne Stull ran 2-2 in the first tw o motos befor e a flat tire ruined his shot at the runner-up hon ors. How ever, Stull wasn't too disappointed, because he was abl e to kn ock off Stewart in the 85cc (12-13) Stock class after Ste wa r t busted a gearbox while chasing after the Suzuki rider in the first moto, Stewart came back to win the next ~ two motos, bu t Stull safely rode in second to clinch his seco nd career Lore tta Lynn 's championship . Arizona's Michael Blose was the class runner-up with a 3-43 s core , w h ile FMF /Suzu ki -backed Shane Bess ran 4-3-14 for third overall. Pennsylvania had another 85cc Na tional Champ ion in the form of Suzu ki rider Broc Heple r, w ho ran 1-1-2 to top th e Stock (7-11) class. He pler, who also rides for Cernic's, Axo, Scott and FMF, was the clear-cut winner in this class, which saw their last moto held in extremely muddy conditions after a Satu rday af te rnoon d own p our. In di ana ' s Shawn C la rk claimed second wi th a 9-3-3 score, whi le Florida 's Matt Goerke was third with 4-68 scores. Titl e co n ten der Ni ck Adams blew a 2-3 score going into the last mota when he was a mud-troubled 30th. The 105cc Superm ini tr ophy was captured by Ca lifornia' s Jonathan Shimp, who po st ed 1-6-1 scores for the title. Sh im p's Yamaha w a s fo llowed by a s tri ng o f Kawa saki rid ers : Flo rid a ' s Rya n Davis (2-4-21, O hio's Gavin Gracyk (3-2-3), Texan Adam Men nenga (71-4), and Oh io's David Hill (5-3-11). Th ree fast young Florid ians to pped the 65cc Stock (10-11) class, sig naling to everyone that, as James Stewart chases in Ricky Carmichae l's foots teps , there's a squa dron of eve n yo unge r pilots chasing in Stewar t's footsteps. Bryan John.son [r., Kyle Chis ho lm an d Ma tt Goe rke' filled the pod ium in the older of the two 65cc classes. Goerke won the first two motos but cou ld on ly mu ster a seventh in the finale. (The other mot a was won by a fast but unfortunate Nic ho las Even; nou , who ra n 3-38-1.) The 65cc (7-9) cl a ss saw a p ai r o( Michiganders up fron t: Corey Slavik (36-1) and Eric Miller (4-8-3) . Washin gton 's Joshua Hill won the first moto and Ken tuck y' s Just in Stipes the seco nd, but neither cou ld manage enough consisten.cy to ge t the top overall trophies.
