Carm ichael ' vas on ly a few bike lengths back as they en tered turn two. Rev nard had a disastrous sta rt, as he fumbied while shifting to second gea r rig ht ou t of the ga te. Ca rmichael pulled alongside Dowd just before the new lOO-plus-foot downhill double, and Carmichael gave it a little bit more and made the spec tacu lar midair pass for the lead . . As the rid ers finished lap o ne, it was Ca rmichael, Dowd, Brown an d Johnson. McCorm ick, Wev, Sella rds an d Button came n ext. Ferry and Reynar d were way back and working through traffic. Th e to p fo u r were the same by lap fiv e , a n d W e y h a d m ov ed p a st McCormick for fifth . Reyn ard was th e fastes t ride r on the track as he was up to e ig h t h a t th e be g in n in g of lap si x. Ferry's charge with Reyn ard came to an end as his bike sud denly sta rted sp uttering badl y around the tra ck. Reynard would p res sure Johnson next and eventually moved by for fourth. Brown would be Revnard's next victi m, as he moved into thiid with four laps to go . With the two -lap board out , Carmichael had 18 seconds over secondp laced Dowd . Reynard ' s charge would co me to a n end as Do w d had an unreacha ble dista nce over the Suzu ki rid er, and Revn ard had second overall locked up if h~ stayed in that position. Reynard ' s m ech a n ic pu t o ut a p it boa rd tha t read "Good Work" on th e fina l lap, as the fans were cheering him o n . Ca rmichael tumbled to a halt , picked up his 'bike and remo unted for th e v.i n, just to ad d a little d ram a for the Millvill e crowd. Dowd ca me ac ross seco n d, a s Carmichael had such a large lead , and Reyn ard would finish a n inc redib le third. "I'm happy about the win and a little em ba rrassed by the fall ," Ca rm ichae l sa id. "You come down that hill so fast , I just hit a bump and - ." "My Bridgestone tires got me o ut of the ga te real good this time," the eversm iling Dowd sai d after the race. "I felt a little faster in this mo to, but Ricky and Robbie we re riding great. " "I felt stronger this mota, and v.i sh I co uld have nailed that sta rt," Reyn ard explained . "I d idn' t catc h second out of the gate and it w as ove r. You can ' t m ake a littl e mistake like that. " Fou rth went to Brown, w ho held his own, follow'ed by Johnson . Sixth went to Butto n, followed by Ron cada and Sell ards.
