The event started ou t well, with Bobby Miosek in the lead on his CBR600, followed by Savage on his Suzuki 600. Chesser, who was making his debu t on the new ZX6R. followed in third . On lap three, Chesser made the pass on Savage into the Dragon Slide, shortly after Savage had passed Miosek. Just when the fans thought they were gelling their mo ney 's worth, Savage tried to put it to Chesse r on the inside of tum three - the blind right-hander under the Dunlop bridge. Coming out of tu rn two, Sava ge fan up the Inside of Ch esser , hitti ng hi s exha ust a nd se nd in g him into a high-side. Chesser's bike flailed heavily as it ended up being hit on both sides by the same bike. But, amazingly, Chesser kept the Kawasaki on two wheels. The even t was red- flagged, giving Chesser a chance to get to the pits. Besides calmi ng the rider's nerves, his crew also ha d to speed ily repair a now-apparent coolant leak. A restart for the five-lap sprin t saw Chesser catch Miosek again, and by tu m four on the first lap he was app lying pressure to the early leader. Chesser made the pass go ing into tum five on the second lap and led to the finish. "Yeah, it's dialed in really good,' Chesser said of his new bike. " I really love it. It's much better than my F-3. For a stock bike, it runs really strong ." C oncoups d' Eleqanc MotorcycleShow S al, Ocl lOlh 9:0 0 a m .- 5:00 p' The Classes: Ame rica n, Contine nta l European,'British a nd Competition. Of the in cid en t involving Sava ge, Ch esser adm itted to a certain degr ee of fault. "I hit a false neutral going into the kink (tum one ), and I ba sicall y tr ied to ge t it back into gear, he sai d . H was jus t wan ting him to go I right by me so he wouldn 't hit me. It finally goes H into gear, and I'm going int o tum three like I norm ally would . The next thing I know, Savage is up against me." Savage escaped without serious injury . The other memorable event of the day was whe n Dan Turner, w ith a large lead in the Race of the Rockies, broke a throttle cable. With just over a lap to go, Turner tho ught quickly. He reached down on the front straight - gelling very d ose to Miosek - and turned up the idle of his YZF1OOO. This enabled him to idle around for a lap and still make it to the podium, taking the third-place trophy and his winnings - a remarkeN able and smart ride. Res ults F-3: I . Tracy Schra m (Ho n); 2.
