Fike's ride seemed effortless as he drove to the front of the 13-strong pa ck and remained there, unch allenged in the eight-lap event. Behind Fike, Dann y Hammond work ed his Yama ha to stay in front of Pro -Mas te rs point lead er Johnny Isaa cs for the first couple of lap s, losing Isaa cs on lap three as his BSA faltered . dropping him from con- tention . Jessup was ridin g only a w heel bac k wh en Isaacs pulled to the high side to let everyone by in tum three. Coming up on Jessup, however, was the Yama ha of Bill Snyder, w ho was sizing up [cssu p's line with each lap, loo king for a n opportu nity. That shance came as Jessup roun ded tum two of lap four when Snyder rolled by the big Harl ey on to the back straight into th ird place. Behind Jessup, Bill Burr sped his BSA aro und john [ effri e s for fifth, leavi ng Jessup, Snyder a n d Ham mond ahead of him as Fike crossed the line for the wi n. In the har d -fo ugh t P ~o-Twin class, Roed er H-D / jo nes H-D / Harl ev XR rider Steve N ichols led the fu ll field into turn one from th e star t, with se ven or more ride rs accelerat ing on his rear end. As he crosse d the m idpoint of turn two, Nichols' bike wen t down - the n anothe r bike, then two mor e follo wed him up to the hay bales . With his han dleb ars bent too ba dly to continu e, Nich ols took th e long rid e on the shag tru ck to th e p its a s the field roll ed back to the line for a comp lete resta rt.
