in Pro Sports Motocross
By Steve and Peg gy Corlee
WYTHE\1LLE, VA, JULY19
Yamaha of Kingsport 's Kevin Walke r showed that
he is fully recove red from the injury he incurred
last fall by """"ping both the 125 and 250cc Pro
classes at the Wiscco /Tucker-Rocky / Sco tt USAsponsored Virginia Sta t~ Cha mp io n~hip .
Ride rs from 12 states conve rged on the Pro
Sports ra cin g facili ty: and grea t wea ther and
track p reparation as we ll as first-class com pe tition pr ovided exciting racing all day long.
Wa lker ' s w ins wer e by no mea ns easy, as
Nor th Carolina' s Jim Chester a nd Penn sylvania's Gaylon Dickson Jr. applied pres..s ure in the
250 cc clas s . Vir gi n ia ' s Tim H ud o c k join e d
Ches ter in the 125cc class in an at tem pt to keep
Walker hon est. In the first 250cc motu. Dickson
an d Ches ter took each other out - no t once, but
twice - in the first lap , a llow ing Walker to get
away . In t he second ra ce, Wa lker too k the
holes hot and led wi re to wire.
After a holeshot and a br ief stint in the front
of the 125cc Pro s, W es t Virginia ' s Richa rd
Prath e r cras he d out as Walker to ok o ve r to
begin a two- moto sweep of tha t class, followed
bv Chester and Hod ock.
~ In B-class action, Team Creen /Podiu rn On esponsored Ben Ridd le totall y d omin a ted bo th
the 125 an d 250cc classes, much to the delig ht of
°
Team Green 's Jeff Chambers, who was on ha nd ,
along with his cre w to provide support for Riddl e as we ll as for the multitudes of Ka wasaki
rid ers in a ttenda nce. Riddle was never headed
in any of his races, and it is easy to see why he is
bein g tou ted as th e next "grea t one" from the
Team Green ranks.
Ridd le wa s followed hom e by No rth Carolina 's Josh ua Capps in the 250cc class and West
Virginia's Timmy Milligan in the 1255.
In the Over 25 Avclass actio n, Ches ter and
Dick so n mana ged to ho ld Walker to a th ird
ove rall, wi th North Ca rolina's Ben Rut led ge and
Tim Hod ock rounding oo t the top five.
Pee Wee action was hot as Cobra-mounted riders swep t the top spots in both divisions. In the 4to e-year-old class, Maryland's Colton Bailey held
on for the win, ahead of North Carolina's McKinnon Welborn and Om;tin ChandlL.,.. In the 7- to 8year-old class, No rth Carolina 's Austin Stro upe
bested Maryla nd's Scan Hackey and Jm;tin Boston.
In C-elass action, consis tency was the key as
No rth Carolina' s Brad Ro be rtson topp ed the
1255 w ith 1-1 fi nish~ a nd Suzuki·mounted Evan
Ow enby di d likewise in the 2505 while their fel·
Ben Ridd le dominated both the 125 an d
