for road racers to go in Alaska . The desire is
there to get tracks in Fairbanks and Ancho rage,
but no funding is availabl e as yet - so the road
race rs tr ek fr om fa r aw a y to th is moss-overgrown, d isintegrating track , to which the closest
civilization is the commun ity of Tok, aro und 10
miles a way. Thi s weekend fea tu red the second
of the three races of the summer, and it turned
in to a crashfes t. Th er e we re more tha n sev en
crash es, which w ill keep the repair shops in the
cities busy for the next month
Scott Bothwell was injured on Saturday and
had to be airlifted to Fairba nks. Bothwell will be
out for the rest of the season with a broken leg.
Mark Taki tami once again se t the pace in the
Unde r SOOcc class - 5I7.27 for the two- lap time
trials on h is Yamaha TZR250- and even beat the
times of all the Open , Buell, 750cc an d 600cc
bikes. Th is was 10 seconds better than his time
for the first race of the season in Jun e.
Aaro n Ruege r challenged with a best time of
5:28.46 in the 600cc class. Rueger was absent
from the first race of the season (d ue to the birth
of a new baby in the family) and he was read y to
cha llenge Takitami for the best ove rall time, but
it wasn' t to be . He still managed to win the
Buell , 750cc a nd 600cc classes, so he brou gh t
home the most trophies.
Rain showed u p on Sunday, the day of the
races (just like it d id at the last round), so the
time trials from the day before stood as the fina l
times for the Mini, Unde r SOOcc and 600cc classes, and for th e ne wly form ed Bue ll class. The
750cc and Open classes were able to run before
the rains came on Sunda y.
