Dan Wynands hol ding down fourth . Trella
wasn 't wasting any time and, as the y completed
the first lap , he grabbed the lead from Rodger.
The Yam ahas of Ste rns and Wvnands meanwhile, were still arguing over the'third sPot.
Trella loo ked comfortable out fro nt, and he
was able to p ut abOut five seconds between himsel f and Rodger. The bat tle for third, though,
was heating up as Wynands closed on Ster ns
and , w as a p p lying co ns ta n t pre ssu re. Perha ps
feeling the heat so mew ha t, Ste rns s ta lled hi s
machine on the next lap in a tricky double-apex
tum, ha nd ing third to Wynands.
Moments after gett ing the wh ite flag, d isaste r struck Trella as he wadded up h is Honda
co mi ng ou t of the canyon section of the course.

chec kers, it was Rodger taking th e win , w ith
Wynands second and Sterns third .
M ot e two again saw Rod ger put his Honda
ou t fro nt on the start, wit h Sterns seco nd and
wynands third . This time, Trella had gated horribly and was m ired way back in the pack.
Rodger loo ked smoo th out front, though Stern s
was doing his best to keep him hon est - trailin g
by abo ut two seconds. Wyna nd s, mea nw hil e,
continued to occupy the third pos ition .
As they started the thi rd lap , Trella began a
remarkable cha rge to the front as he met hod ica lly went abo ut the chore of picking off riders two or three of the m per lap . At the halfway signa l, Rodge r wa s still leading. with Sterns hold ing down seco nd p lace. Trella wa s now up to
fourt h and looking for a way around Wynands.
On the next la p, Trella not only passed Wynands
for thi rd, he also managed to move into second
when Sterns staIled his motorcycle - again. With
some room to roam, Trella set sail for Rod ger
and the lead. After a brief skirmish, Trella was
able to moto r by Rod ger to as sume th e poi nt
positi on righ t before the white /lag came out.
At the finis h, it was Trella taking th e win ,
followed by Rodger and Sterns. On the da y, consistency was the key for Rodger, as-his 1-2 moto
scores earned him the overall victory. Trella, by
virtue of his 4-1 score, finis hed se cond, a nd
Sterns, with a 3-3 tally , bagged third.
