Racin g began u nd er c1l.'ar skies with just under 250 ride rs coming out to race in 27 class es. Harper nailed th e h o les h o t and n e v e r looked back in the first Vet Expe rt moto. Trail ing Harper we re Rob ert N udy, James Fis he r, Ja rr ett N ew by a nd Will iam Che ney. Throu gh the technica l Whoo p section , N udy got ou t o f shape but man agt.ii a grea t save. Robert Nud y got by his brother Jam es o n la p tw o for fourt h place. The top five we re well-s paced-ou t for the res t of the rno to, with th e only rea l battle being the one a t the very front. Harper finali y got by Iewby on the las t lap in the 'big swee pe r nea r the sta rt area as ewby took the out side line while Harper chose the quicker inside route. The mota fin ished with Ha rper lea d in g ho me Newby, Rob ert Nud y, . Fisher and James Nudy. Joe Man gra vito grabbed the holeshot in the first Vet Novice mo ta. Trailing him through the first tum were Bob Lonni, Rowland, Tod d Waiters a nd Loyd McLa in . Row la nd had sec o nd place by the time th e pack cleared the tech nical Whoop sectio n, and he ha d the lead by the threeq ua rt er ma rk of lap one . An d he d id n 't stop ther e: Row land' s lead was some seven seconds a t the start of la p two . Mean wh ile, there was some sw a pping going on behin d Rowland ; Walter s moved up to secon d, Mangr a vito dropped ba ck to thi rd , Matt Avery moved up to four th and Lonni dropped to fifth . Rowland was way out front, leading by 20 seconds after two laps. He won easil y, bes ting Walters, Avery, John Truesdale a nd Man a gravito. Le nni blasted th rough the pack to take the ho les hot in the se cond Vet No vice moto, Iollowed by Rowland , Avery , Man gr avil o, a nd Truesdale. Rowland, however , led by th e tim e the y got to the end of the whoo p section. In a pattern simila r to the one he set in the first mot o, he instantly started to distance himself from the --rond field . Truesd ale, mea nw hile, took over Sl. place by the specta tor tripl e; he was followed by Lonni, Avery and Mangra\ito. The rest of the moto was a snoo zer as the top five we re quit e spread out. JULY12 Suzuki rid er Jason Co nlon flew to ove rall w ins in the 125cc A and Unlim ited A clas ses, and fin· ished second in the hotly contes ted 250cc A class at roun d nine of the District 7 Expert Motocross Series, held a t Bud ds Creek MX Park in Ma ryland . The hard· charging Pro·Am rid e r fro m Mount Airy, Maryla nd , scored five out of six mot a wi ns on the day , narro wly mis sing th e ove ra ll in th e 250cc A cla ss by virtue o f a n uncharacteristic fifth-p la ce finish in the first mot o. Conlon wasted no time in pu lling a way from the pack as he continu l"t:J to build his lead stead ily throughout the mote . On the seco nd la p, Schlag made an agg ressive pa s~ on Jue rge ns for second in one of the track's tigh t hairpin tums, d ropping the fast-start ing Suz u ki rider to third . At the ha lfway point, it wa s Con lon solid ly o ut fro n t, follow ed by Sch la g , Ju e rg e ns , Wi ll ia m s a nd Shenandoa h H o n d a / Tu ck er Rocky-bac ked Ryan Jones, who mov ed into the top five after d isplacing Da vis on the prev ious la p. With one lap to go and the top two positions firml y established , Williams force his Thor / JT d Mo to rsp o rt s / Boyese n -ba cke d KTM a ro u n d Juergen s to secure the third spo t, TIle moto finished with Con lon taking the deci sive win, followed by Sch lag. Willia ms was third , followed closely by Juergens and Jones, who rou nd ed out the top five.
