Two full d ivisions of 250cc Pros bat tled for the 35 slo ts op en for the 250cc final, and the entry list con tained plent y of top-named race rs, as we ll as some of the nation 's tou gh est privateer s and up- Y (Above) Doug Dubach was top dog at the Mammoth Mountain Motocross. A su percross-type format was used in the 250cc class, wi th the ma in event determining the final res ults, and the reward for the winners was a big share of the $20,000 Pro purse and a chance to claim a top performance in one of the country's most prestigious non-national events. Motocross racers, their families and race fans on ce again flocked to Mammoth to enjoy the warm, friend ly at mosphere in th e pit s and the su rro unding com munity, and the great racin g on the track was - as always - the icing on the ca ke. With a full tw o weeks of racing and pract ice, as well as a host of other recreational oppo rtu nities in the beautifu l r esort a rea o f Mamm oth La ke s, man y a ttendees mad e this annual event a vaca tion. As a result, area resorts and condominiu ms wer e hopping, as more than a thousand racers packed the town. Beautiful w eather for pra cti ce a nd racin g days a id ed the Mammoth track crew, which d id a great job of maintaining the track. Although the typ ical High Sierra sp ring winds came up predictably each afternoon , temperatu res were mild in the afternoons, and each morning the racers were gree ted w ith a fres h track on w hich to race. Dubach began his w in ning ways by topping the Vet Pro class on Thursday w hic h was act ually a follow-up to his victory at the pr evious weekend's Over The Hill Gan g racin g even t. In Thurs-
