Alcoriza aces Sacramento SX By Bret Eckert SACRAMENTO. CA. JUNE 26 Ho leshot Moto Accessories-sponsored Trevor AJcoriza used a come-from-behind second- mote w in to score the overall title in the hotly contested SOcc Beginner class. With this race being the . fi na l ro u n d of th e five- race Carmichael Honda /Racers Pit Shop / MC Co ncepts-sponso red Spring Series, Alcoriza fmished wi th an ample 13-point cushion over series rival Rowdy Al varez. Eighteen wild-eyed Yamaha, Su zuki and Honda riders lined up for the sta rt of moto one in this newl y added class. With the dominance o f the KTM, Lem, Action and Cobras in the SOcc classes. KB Racing Pro moti ons added this class jus t for riders on the trul y begi nne r's minicycles. Whe n the dust settled in th e firs t tum, Corey "Pinner" Padilla of Mach I Motosp or ts ha d the holeshot, with Alcoriza and Sean Benfield hot on th e rea r of hi s s ha ft-d ri ve n Ya m ah a PW as Ste phen Szabo and C.}. Barham rounded ou t the top five. On lap two, Benfield went down and Szabo zapp ed Alco riza, ta kin g over second on h is Dua ne 's Body & Pa int /Rose ville Cycle Racin g Yamaha. Alcoriza p ut his little bike in overd rive a nd rega ined second on th e third lap as Brad Vince n t steadily mad e up for a poor sta rt an d climbed to fourth. The checkers flew for Padilla firs t, with Alcoriza seco nd a nd Vincent gra bbing thi rd just a head of Szabo . Mo to tw o saw Barha m time the fa ll-back gate perfectly and gra b the early lead . Alcoriza earned another good start in second , and Benfield and Pad illa were also within striking distance of the leaders. Alcoriza didn't waste an y time this m ota as he pilo ted his Suzuki to th e lead on lap tw o, with Padilla moving up to second . Alco riza a nd Padill a ca rried o n in that order as the action behind them got hot and se rio us . Benfi eld a dva nced to third on lap three, dropping Barham one position further back. At the finish . Alco riza held on for the win, with Padilla not far ba ck in seco nd . Benfield maintained th ird a n d Barham a nd Alv a rez ro unded out the top five. The night's win and the se ries title we nt to A1coriza, as Alvarez and Benfield claimed second and th ird , respectively, in the series. In other SOcc series action, Joshua "Wild Child" Gr eco dominated the 4-6 Beginner class , s sweeping all five rou nd s while hi.. nearest competitor, Cody La rnbott, ea rn ed sec ond . Dylan Ney squeaked the 7-9 Beginner-class title by two p oints o ve r Ricky Adams, while Matt hew S pe n ce r cl early wa s th e fa stest 50c c rider around , as he to o k the No vi ce crow n o ver Jimm y Breneisen.
