• Greer on the gas at Reddy Hole Hare Scramble By HNther Greer IVOK. VA, MAY 31 Reddy Hole, known for its fast field crossings and tight, twisting trails through pine thickets, lured more than 172 riders to the seventh round of the Tuder-Roc:ky/Bell/Havoline-sponsored Virginia Championship Hare Scrambles Series. Jason Greer rode weU in the heat to win the overaU on his Casey Cyde CityIFadory Connec:tion/MSR-supported YZ12S. Many riders rode with water bottles and were sprayed at the pit stops to help them combat the high temperatures. The fastest drive out of the hole belonged to Stephen Edmondson's FMF/White Brothers IBruce's Suspension-supported Kawasaki KX2SO, but Greer was right on his tail. Greer and Edmondson charged the fast field crossings side by side, until Greer ,tarting pulling away to a one-minute lead going into the second lap. When the punch cards where cut, Greer had built more than a three-minute lead on Motor Importsl AnswerlSeot.,;ponsored Daniel Morrison, who got by Edmondson on the third lap. David White came back from sixth place on the first lap to bag fourth place at the finishing barrels. One of the dosest races of the day belonged to Dean Ingram and Andrew Williams, both on KX125s. Ingram showed his rear fender to Williams for two laps until Williams slipped by him. Williams' lead did not last long, however, a. he had to faU in behind Ingram coming out of the pits. Ingram took the checkers, with Williams a very dose second place. Ivor was the setting for many riders' first win of the 1998 season. Two brothers, Tommy and David Ashley, showed the 2SOcc A class why they were former dass champions. David Ashley bagged his first win of the season, while his brother, Tommy, dosed in behind him for second. KTM rider Brian Morgan dueled with Josh Elliot's Kawasaki to clinch a win in the 12Sec B dass. Danny Morrison has been riding his Motor Importsl Answer IBruce's Suspension-sponsored KX 250 strongly this season, and the heat did not cause him to waver; he took first place, ahead of fellow KTM rider R.J. Faddis, in the Vet A class. Montie Orr rode a consistent race aboard his Honda to take third. Pushing his Casey Cyde City-backed KX80 to the max, Jason Bailey continued his domination of the Mini dass. Jason Huffman rode hard to stay within striking distance of Bailey but had to settle for second. Bryan Happle, a force to be reckoned within the Mini class, came in third. Inthe Women's dass, Motor Importsl AnswerlPirelli-sponsored Jessica Morrison burst off the line to dose everyone out in the first tum. Morrison lost the lead when she took a wrong tum. opening the door for Casey Cycle City IChick-FuA/PireUi-sponsored Heather Greer. Christine Blake challenged Greer by slipping by her on a ditch crossing, and the two battled for the next halflap.
