Dan Berg in both motos to win the Pro
class at an Over The Hill Gang motocross
held at Perris Raceway in California.
with Sariaz getting the nod for third this time.
One of the fiercest battles on the track was the
one for fifth between Danylo and Henn, and
Henn used Musgrave's move on the sweeper to
muscle his way into fifth. Up front, Musgrave's
1-1 gave him the overall ahead of Berg (2-2) and
Sari.,z (4-3).

Short shines at RMXA MX

Kawasaki Team Green rider Andrew Short
shined as bright as the sun as he claimed three
overall wins in the 125ee B and Schoolboy classes at the Southwest/South Central Loretta
Lynn's National Qualifier that was hosted by the
Rocky MOWltain Motocross Association.
The two-day event, held at the Watkins
Sports Riders track, featured all Stock classes on
Saturday and, along with a different track
design, all Modified dasses on Sunday.
Action in the 125cc B class got under way
Saturday with Kyle Locke grabbing the holeshot
on his Yamaha. Short, however, wasted little
time as he plotted an attack on Locke. Within a
lap and a half, Short had captured the lead and
begun an assault on the 125cc A class, which
had left the gate 30 seconds earlier. Doug Leavitt
kept Short honest by jumping into second and
staying within a few bike lengths of the leader
for the entire moto. As the two front-runners
pulled away from the field, a battle for third
broke out involving Oifton Stroud, Terry Armstrong and Mike Royer.
Locke found himself in sixth, fighting for
position with Medellin and Martin Cardenas.
Cardenas succumbed to the pressure and laid it
down, as Locke grabbed fifth. Meanwhile, Short
collected the win, with Leavitt taking second.
Royer's momentum propelled him to third, with
Stroud taking fourth.
'1 felt great out there," said the 15-year-old
Short. "The track layout makes for some fast racing, The lappers and backmarkers made for
some difficult passing, though."
Leavitt grabbed the holes hot in moto two,
with William Dotson in second. Short held
down third, with Armstrong in fourth. As the
leaders circulated around one of the downhill
sections with a l8O-degree turn at the base, Dotson stuffed his front end and allowed Short the
opportunity to pass. Within pouncing distance,
Short reeled in Leavitt and made the pass stick
as the two exited the whoop section. Dotson was
able to maintain third, as Royer, who was in
fourth, had his hands full battling with fifthplaced Robby McQuary.
Short crossed the finish in first and claimed
the overall. Leavitt captured second overall with
a 2-2 mota score. Royer's 3-4 collected third
overall.
Short continued. his domination Saturday in
the UScc Schoolboy class, winning both motos.
On Sunday, a 1-6 tally gave him second overall
in the 125cc B dass, and 1-2 netted him first
overall in the 125cc Schoolboy class.
Leavitt also had an impressive weekend, as
he claimed the overall on Saturday in the 16-24
class, and on Sunday he went 2-1 for the overall
in the 125cc B class. He also turned in a I-I performance in the 16-24 class.
Sunday's weather started off sunny and
beautiful, but by midday Mother Nature had
decided to deHver a torrential downpour that
sent racers and spectators running for cover and
delayed racing action for approximately two
hours.
In ti,e 250cc B class, Michael Campbell diced
for the holeshot with Kirk Huff. Out of the second
corner, Huff edged Campbell for the lead, with
Royer in third. Armstrong held down fourth and
McQuary fifth. Three wide through the whoops,
Huff, Campbell and Royer all jammed into the
next corner, with Royer coming out in the lead.
Royer and Campbell then began to break away as
McQuary, Huff and Armstrong setUed into position. The five proceeded to finish in that order.
As a second wave of thunderstorms mov~
through the area, a wet moto two got under
way, with Campbell collecting a clean holeshot.
