"1 went up there and squeezed the clutch lever extra hard, and when the light came on, . my mind said go, but my hand never moved. 1 had my feet on the footpegs, but the bil<.e wasn't moving. 1 really felt bad for John because he's my teammate and, in my mind, he's the be t rider out here. 1hated to see !Urn lose like that." The Team Winston rider also narrowly escaped defeat in the semis after a wheel-to-wheel race against John Smith's Ankoa-Ramsey Suzuki. In what was officially the quickest side-by-side race in NHRA mstory, Seeling finished ahead of Smith by .012 seconds, 7.28 to 7.29, to move into the sixth final round of her career. Greg Underdahl, who finished seventh in the points battle last year in ms first fuU season on the NHRA tour, emerged as the best of the rest, with a career-best 7.32 in round one and a 7.40to-7.50 win over Paul Gast in round two. U.nderdahl cruised into the first final round of his career after ta'king out Tonglet in the semis, 7.36 to 7.38, though in the final, Underdahl's NCN Communications Suzuki had nothing for Seeling, who drove away with her fourth straight sub -7.3-second run, 7.28 to Underdahl's 7.39. "Before the start of the season, one of the goals 1 set for myself was to make it to a final round, and we were able to accomplish that in four races," said Underdahl, who formerly served as a crew ernef for the Vance & Hines team. "Now our goal is to win a race, and the way we've been running, T believe we can do it." With the victory, Seeling moved from fourth to second in the points standings, though she still trails Hines by 105 points. "Last year we buried ourselves in the points because we got «)ff to a slow start," said Seeling, who finished seventh and fifth in her two years on the tour. "1 was worried about Matt getting o far ahead, but we made up a lot of ground at this race. If we can keep running as well as we did here, 1 think we'll be able to give !Urn a run for it." n see where it all began! visit our web site at www.mxnationals.com Date Track City.
