Souza, who had never even sat on one of the Swedish specials before the evening began, aced a perfect holeshot over Noyes and firstturn master Bob Casey, followed closely by Shawn Raggio arld Tony Meiring. Souza quickly established a sizable lead as he pulled away from oyes and the rest of the pack. But with seven laps down, however, Souza faded. Noyes eroded away the lea d and closed to within a few bike lengths of the leader. Noyes continued the pressure on Souza and pried the teenager aside with a powerful inside pass. Once in the lead, Noyes continued to extend his advantage, as Casey and Raggio closed in on Souza. At the checkered flag the order was unchanged.
