Tom Adams grabbed the lead off the tapes when the gate opened up to start th~ Second Division main event. Adams appeared to be in complete control as the rest of the six-rider field shuffled like a deck of cards. As the laps wound down, howevef, Bill Newby and Harlan Bast threaded their way into the second and third spots. Just as the pack came down to take the white flag, Adams hit the dirt, giving Newby the lead: "The Metal Kid" held off Bast for one more lap and claimed the win, with Glenn Scott finishing third. Ryan Fisher started on the back straightaway in the First Division Junior final, and the Hesperia, California, rider quickly gobbled up the distance between himself and the rest of the pack, easily threading his way through the field toward leader Donnie Robinson. It appeared as though Robinson would take the win, but his motorcycle expired off turn four just before the white flag was thrown, allowing Fisher to blast by and cruise to the victory. A.J. Jones set up race-long leader Jonathan Curry in the Second Division Junior main. After chasing Curry for almost the entire distance, Jones pulled wide in turn three and then dived to· the pole off the last corner, beating Curry in a drag race to the checkered flag.
