cut a great gate and was gone, leaving
the ba ttle for second between
Ermolenko and Hicks. Ermolenko held
on for two laps, but when the white flag
came, Hicks turned it up a notch and
got underneath to take over econd.
Schwartz and Hicks took the direct
transfers, while Ermolenko and Ackroyd had one more shot in the lastchance.
The second semi was one of the best
races of the night. Oxley drew the pole,
with Chism in two and Castro in three.
On the outside, Venegas was in four and
Manchester in five. When the tapes
went up, Venegas, Manchester and
Oxley were close enough to blanket, and
all three were on the gas. Venegas was
m the lead, but by the slimmest of margins.
Manchester was working the outside
for all it was worth, and Oxley was trying to make the pole work for him. On
the second lap, Manchester came
through one and two so close to the
ground that it looked like he would be
picking himself up from it. But he 1Jlade
H through and was able to outrun Oxley
from the outside to take the second spot.
Venegas and Manchester were on
their way to the main and Oxley and
Chism were on their way to the lastchance.
Because of a referee's error in the
s'emis, Castro was allowed to take a
place on the line in the LCQ. Ermolenko
drew the pole, with Oxley in two and
Castro in three. Ackroyd drew four,
with Chism in five. Ermolenko got the
start, but Oxley went down low and
took ovet the lead at the end of lap one.
When Oxley is out in front, he is as
deadly as any rider in the field, and it
was ~'Rad" Brad who earned the final
spot in the final.
