Bagger STANTON, MI, APR. 14 Matt Crown is certainly not a newcomer to District 14 motocross. In fact, his name has almost become a household word to many Michigan fam.ilies, as Crown has performed his suspension magic for hundreds of riders through his business, MCR Suspensions. Not only does CroW!' offer his services wee<.m and week out to racers who are eager to become more proficient, he practices what he preaches every weekend at the local tracks. Lately, that has spelled trouble for nearly everybody, including the 250cc A-class riders. Crown just recently turned 30, and it looks as if this could be his magic number, as he has totally dominated the Over 25 and 30 classes and can always be counted on to be a contender in the 250cc A division. Moreland's USA Speedway hosted the ~ixth round of the Spring Ring MX Series, and Mother Nature continued to cooperate by offering up another beautiful spring day with temperatures hovering around 65 degrees, bright sunshine and just enough wind to help control the dust. As usual. the Moreland's crew did a fine job throughout the day, with only one minor hiccup during afternoon sign-ups which slowed the start of the program momentarily. But with more than 800 riders in attendance, this was understandable. The watering crew worked throughout the day and the track stayed nearly dust-free, forming beautiful berms and becoming rough enough to challenge even the best riders. . After cleaning house during the morning session in the Over 30 class, Crown entered the Over 2S class for the afternoon program. Between working on customers' suspensions, Crown continued to have ~ way with the field of 30 riders, which included many 250 and 125cc A riders. Crown pulled the holeshot in the first molo and appeared to be in a very big hurry to get it over with. He continued to stretch ~ lead over the six-lap race and took the win over Bob Mugan and Dave Korte by an incredible 30 seconds. After Crown totally wasted the competition in tile first moto, the second moto was promising to be real yawner. But when the dust settled from the first tum, it was the Kawasaki of Korte leading the pack. After a brief stay in third, Crown quickly found his way to the front by first selling up Mugan in the off-<:amber switchbacks and then reeling in Korte and making a beautiful pass in the totally whooped-out straight along the woods. After moving into the lead, Crown made it look easy as he launched off the lID-foot double with ease and performed a few whips for the appreciative ~rowd. "I didn't qualify for any Pro Nationals last year and recently just turned 30," Crown said after the race. "That will allow me to ride the Amateur Nationals this year in the Vet classes. I know that many other former .Pros are returning to the Amateur ranks, and I'm really looking forward to going to Loretta Lynn's. I also think it will be good for my business, as many of the area's top riders that use my suspension services will be there, and maybe 1 can help them if they need it. J grew up racing motorcycles in District 14 and it feels good to get back to my roots and stay involved in something I have always loved." Results 60; 1. Cranl Moreland (Kaw); 2.
