from Minnesota, he should check out the Virginia soil - so down he went. Povolny recovered in time to finish just behind Neese' in third place. In the second 250cc Pro moto, it was a Neese-Horton dogfight from the start. For the first three laps, Moto Planet/Fox/Pro Action's Horton cleaned off Neese's side panels with his front wheel as the spectators fought for position on the fence. On the third lap, Horton slipped in a turn, giving Neese about three seconds to spare. Extreme/Smith/ Alpinestars' Povolny was charging hard and closing until his silencer broke, which slowed him slightly. Up front, Neese was putting on a show with every leap over the small mountain as he took the victory and the overall on the four-stroke 'Berg. The 125cc Pro class was almost all Neese. He led the first moto from start to finish. He took the holeshot in the second moto and led it until he fell on the last lap, allowing Povolny to move by for the win. Neese's 1-2 score gave him the overall win over Povolny's 4-1. The 50cc 4- to 6-year-old class featured a heated battle that came down to the last lap in the final moto. The Cobramounted trio of Madison Hambright, Colton Bailey and McKinnon Welborn finished the first moto 1-2-3. In the second moto, it was Welborn with the holeshot, followed by Hambright and Bailey. Hambright fell on the first lap, allowing Bailey to move into second. On the third lap, Welborn fell and it was Bailey into the lead. Bailey was the only one doubling the whoops and he held on to the lead, but when the white flag came out, he was so excited that he let up and started to exit the track. Hambright seized the opportunity and zipped on by, leaving Bailey to recover and finish second. The 125cc B class was as competitive as ever, and Suzuki-mounted Brad Edwards emerged as the champion for the day. Edwards used 1-2 scores to claim the win, but he got a lesson in passing in the second moto by YZ rider Jered Black. Black got a very bad start in the first moto, yet charged his way to third by the finish. In the second moto, he got off the gate with Edwards and the race of the day was on. Black pushed, dived inside and pulled alongside, but on the last lap he held the gas on and jumped over Edwards' head as they a ttacked the back hill. Black was one of the very few riders to jump a 125 all the way up onto the top of the small moun tain, and his 1-3 scores netted him second overall for the day - and a lot of respect. "I can't believe he jumped over my head," a startled Edwards said after the race. "I should have jumped it." The Over 25 B class was just as competitive, with three different capable riders leading at different times. In the first mota, it was Albert "Holeshot" McCoy with the lead, followed by Larry Sparks on his new Suzuki and Kevin Blalock. McCoy stalled his Suzuki on the second lap and Sparks and Blalock shot by. Sparks held on for the win. The second moto saw Sparks, McCoy, Shane Jenkins and Blalock jump out front. On lap three, McCoy fell coming out of a slick turn and then Jenkins crashed, giving Blalock an easy ride into second place. Blalock saw only one rider between himself and victory, so he put the pressure on Sparks. On the last lap, with just two turns and a long set of uphill whoops to go, Blalock seized the Tom Horton (55) leads Kenny Ramo (8) and Gary Davis (partially hidden) in the Dinosaur main event during the ARHMAlClassic Bike Magazine National Dirt Track at Willow Springs International Raceway. Horton took the win, with Davis finishing second. opportuni ty by blazing through the whoops to take the moto and overall win (2-1). 1:N Pro Sport MX Wytl1llvllle, Virginia Results: April 26, 1998 125 PRO: 1.
