ford and Querine. The three diced it out for position until midmoto, when Brooknan began to fade, giving Clifford and Guerine the opportuni-· ty to-fight for third. Guerine accepted the challenge and moved into third, taking the overall win with a 1-3 finish. Out front, Casey's comfortable lead secured the mota-two win and, with an 11-1 finish, he was able to round out the top five overall. O'Neill took second, Clifford go' third and Susco 'ook fourth overall. During the halftime intermission in between the morning and afternoon programs, Colorado Motorsports (a Yamaha/Suzuki dealership in Castle Rock, Colorado) sponsored a freestyle/jump-off contest wherein seven Colorado aerialists aired it out for a free tire and a bundle of cash. Candy bars, no-hander landings, nac-nacs, tail-whips and heel-clickers were the maneuvers of the day. Even local female pro Brookie Renker, a crowd favorite, showed her stuff as she aired out her Yamaha with no-footers over the 90-Ioot tabletop. The winnings went to Hale as the applause rung just a Utile louder for his pancaked RM250 than it did for the heelclicker of Rocky johnson on his KX125. Results raged all race long in the 250cc B class, but Kitchen got the nod at the checkers for the win. In the 200cc B class, Mike McCrea and Alan Westerfield had their KDXs cranking as they checked in at race's end just seconds apart, with McCrea taking the win. The Open C class finished out with 'Trent Ashby besting Chad Hollis by just a few seconds for the win. (N AMA Mid-South Winter HS Series Cadiz, Kentuclly Results: March 22, 1998 (Round 9) ANPRO: 1. Corns Photo by Dawn Winczewski AURORA, CO, MAR. 15 Racers and spectators alike were treated to a wonderful day of racing at the Rocky Mountain Motocross Association's Spring Series opener, held at Watkins Raceway. Kawasaki ace Darin Guerine rode away with the Over 25 B-class overall win and Suzuki pilot Wes Hale, from Thorton, Colorado, won the jump-off and took home a free tire and a bundle of cash. Darin Guerine captured the holeshot and put his KX250 out front early in thE> Over 25 B class but, midway through the first lap, a downed Over 25 A rider (a two-gate start combined the Over 25 A and Over 25 B classes) at the base of the 90-foot tabletop brought out the yellow flag and allowed the pack to bunch up. One turn later, 6-foot-5-mch-tallRacers Edge-backed Erik Casey capitalized and hopped into the lead. Casey's efforts were short-Jived, however, as a faulty exl1aust system forced him to retire to the pits prematurely. Guerine regained the lead, with Boulder Yamaha's Douglas O'Neill in hot pursuit, followed by Nicholas Susco on a YZ and with Loveland Honda/Bridgestone/Pro Circuit's johnny Clifford holding down the fourth position. Guerine took the checkers with the win, and Susco and Clifford were able to get past O'Neill for second and third, respectively, with O'Neill settling for fourth. Claiming the hoJeshot i.n moto two, Casey proved dominant as he piloted his CR to the front with a commanding lead. O'Neill held down second while a true battle for third broke out between Yamaha rider Doug Brooknan, Clif- Dotson on at Peter Ford Spring Classic Motocross By Bill Spencer. FOLSOM, CA, MAR. 22 After three tries, the lord commanded, thou shalt run an AHRMA Vintage MX - finally. Despite morning rains, the Peter Ford Spring Classic was run on a virgin grass track next to the Hangtown National track, and Dave Dotson ~ook two big wins in both the 500cc Sportsman and Over 40 Expert divisions. Dotson got plenty of challenges from Ken Vandehoof and Donn Anderson, but when Vandehoof missed a hift on the last lap of the last mota, the KTM racer had four moto wins and dual trophies. Darryl Alcorn topped the opening Over 40 Intermediate show in both motos, while Steve
