SUPERCROSS Round 12: Trans World Dome TOYOTA TRUCKSlTHORlPARTS UNUMITED AliA SUPERCROSS SERIES~------------------------------, By Kit Palmer Photos by Kinney Jones ST. LOUIS, MO, MAR. 28 t's amazing what a little confidence will do. Just ask Team Yamaha's Kevin Windham, who posted his second 250cc main-event win in three weeks, his latest victory coming in front of 49,511 spectators at the Trans World Dome in St. Louis. Ever since winning his first race of the season a t New Orleans three weeks ago, Windham has been tearing up the track. He's posted two wins and a second-place finish and at that race, he nearly won. Windham's victory at St. Louis was also his sixth podium finish in the la t eight races. "1 can't even describe how [ feel- I'm on top of the world right now," Windham said after blowing away the competition in the 20-lap main event. "It feels great that everything is falling into place. I'm just having so much fun on the bike - just having a blast. It's unbelievable - a great feeling. The confidence is there." A lot of that great feeling had to do with him passing both supercross points leader Jeremy McGrath and Suzuki's Mickael Pichon before getting out in front and pulling away for the win on what s;me riders felt was one of the best and most technical tracks this season. Getting nearly as much attention as Windham for his win was Team Honda's Ezra Lusk for his questionable pass on last year's St. Louis winner, McGrath, two turns from the end to steal second place. Lusk was nearly booed off the podium after executing an aggressive blockpass on McGrath that left the four-time champ sprawling. The move cost McGrath at least two positions and Lusk perhaps a few fans. "1 know I'll never be a Jeremy McGrath, and 1 hate to get booed because of a race like this, but once in a while somebody's got to do that to somebody," Lusk said from the podium. "It is just aggressive racing; we had a lot of fun." Uh, McGrath didn't think so. "It was a chicken-shit move," McGrath said. "He (Lusk) didn't even attempt to turn; I guess it all boils down to that 1 should've just went inside in the last two corners. 1 just watched it (the collision) on video, and he came straight into me, no doubt about it. 1 personally would rather ride and get third than do that to someone." Before McGrath could get going (Above) With another strong performance, Windham rode his Alley 5emar-tuned Yamaha to victory for the second time this season. It wa.s also Yamaha's eighth victory in the 12 rounds held thus far. (Below) Mickael Pichon (16) edged out Jeremy McGrath (2) for the holeshot in the 250Cc main at the 51. Louis Trans World Dome. Pichon led for eight laps before getting passed by. Kevin Windham. Pichon ended up 10th and McGrath fourth.
