On lap two, Blackwell and Summers
locked together a nd pulled away from
the rest of the field, continuing a seesaw
battle that saw Blackw ell corne through
at la p's end with a w heel-length lead.
Sampson held third , McLaughlin wa s
fourt h and Judson raced in fifth.

Blackwell a nd Summers continued
out fro n t at th e start of lap five, and
Blackw ell enj oyed abo ut a 10-second
lead as Summers ran into some trouble.
"I encountered a lapper and we hit
and (that) slowed me, but that's racing,"

Summers said later.
Judson held tJ1ird until lap five, wh en
he was s nared off his Husaberg by a
han ging vin e; Bersano and Sampson
shot past.
On the sixth and final lap, Blackwell
and Summers headed out wi th Blackwell about 15 seconds in fro nt of Summers . Th e cro w d w a s a nticipati ng a
showdown of sorts, but it was not to be,
as Blackwell came in for the win, while
Su mmers was nowhere in sight. H is
bike ran out of gas abou t a mile from the
finish.
"It was jus t o ne o f those th ings ,"
Summers said . "We ' re testing a little:
bigger piston and o the r thi ng s on th e
. bike. I thou gh t I could go the distance in
a two- hour race, but I carne up a littl e
s ho rt . Do n ' t get me w rong , th ou g h . Black well r od e a g rea t ra ce a nd h e
d eserved to win."
"Yea h, I ha d a good day a nd was
ab le to hang in there," Blackwell confi rmed. " It's d e fin it el y a co n fidence
boos t any time you can beat the Nati onal Champ.'
With Su m me rs gone, Bersano wa s
ela ted to move into the second-overall
spo t. Sampson held on for third on his
new TM, and fourth overa ll went to Vet
A rid er Mike Cornett on his Tri County
Cycle Yam ah a YZ. Ohio's Gene O'Nail
mad e th e tri p worthwhile as he pow ered his Team Green Kawasaki to fifth
overall, just a click behind Cornett.

Jud son. He ran as high as third overall
for a couple of laps and then ran out of
gas on the last lap and pushed his bike
to the finish.
Chris Hicks, on his Sport Cycle KTM,
moved one step closer to the 250cc A
championship, as he has improved consid erably all season to finish first at this
e v e n t and s ix t h overa ll. Mid-States
Motorsports' Steve Go rdon stayed within striki ng d istance for second.
Trent Ashley and Chad Hollis had a
ra ce- long ba ttle in th e Open C class,
with As h ley garnering th e win at th e

The Open B final saw a repeat performance
from Larson, who won the race rega rd less of a
broken front fender tha t be ame wedged precarc

Duluth, Minnesota' s Jeff Berg throughout and
na rr o w ly held on to fi nish seco nd . La ke
Martha's Joe Tro mberg reco vered fro m a heatrace crash to finish fourth and was the only rider
ab le to keep the front-runners in sigh t aboa rd
his stock 600 IT Yamaha.

The tripl e-crown award goes to Shawn Burr,

250cc B class.
