ARENACROSS Rounds 21 &22: Denver Coliseum AMAlPJ1 NATIONAL AR ENAC ROSS SERIES 51ep W • - = S By John Clifford File photos by Karl Ockert DENVER, CO, FEB. 20-21 hen the AMA /PJ1 ational Arenacross pulls into Denver, it's uSl/ally the final rounds of the series - not to mention snowing outside - bu t this time things we re different There are still six rounds left in the series, and there was no snow in sight. Things, however, we ren't much different for Thor /Honda /Tuf Racing 's Denny Stephenson. After winning both 250cc classes the week before in Milwaukee, Stephenson again won two ' main events at the Denver Coliseum. This time, both of his wins came in one night, on Friday. And just for good measure, Stephenson took the Dash For Cash race, too. Saturday, however, did not go as well for Stephenson, as Team Green/BT Racing /Pro Action /FMF's Mike Jones scored the 125cc main and Dash For Cash wins, and Primal Impulse /Bill'S Pipes / Answer / Su z u ki' s Bud dy Antunez, the defending champ, topped the 250cc class. Jones also pocketed $1985 in cash after winning two jum poff contests. Cliffo rd Adoptante, Grayson Goodman, Cliff Palmer, Todd Del-loop , Buddy Antunez, Travis Hodges, Chad Pederson, Jim Chester, Jason Part ridge and Kirk Rourke. There was little passin g early on, but Stephenson did gain some breathing room over the battl e fo r seco nd pl ac e between Jones and Buehl. The two riders rubbed elbows at times, bu t Buehl was bent on finis hing w ith his tea mma te, Stephenson. Buehl was the fastes t in the whoops all night an d made his move there, passing Jones to the finish d ou ble ju mp . Buehl's inside position finally gave him control and an eventual second-place finish over Jones. Palmer eventually got by Goodman to take fourth . Antunez was never able to recover from his mid pack start, finishing seventh, right behind DeHoop. In the 250cc m a i n , Pederso n, Stephenson and Jones quickly settled into the top three positions; then Jones made a couple of good moves and soon had control of first place, w hile Stephenso n a nd Pederson raced side by side . Mean whil e, Pa lmer, Brad Wools ey, Hodg es, Good ma n, Del-loop, Ch ester, Buehl and Antunez gave chase . Stephen son soon tripled a ju mp to pull up on Jon es, w hile Buehl pus hed his wa y ar ound DeH oop a nd Ch ester, and Antunez started his charge, picking off Chester . Up front, Jon es and Steph enson continu ed to battle a n d th e two riders m ov ed o u t o n th e res t of the p ac k. Ste phenson ap plied m o r e a nd m ore pr essure on Jones but, as of ye t, to no avail. Buehl was on the move, making up time in the w hoops a nd p ick in g off Goodman a nd then Woo lsey for fifth ,
