Bersano's lead was short-lived, however, as he tangled with a lap per and
went down. Sampson passed Bersano
and the race was on. The two Pro riders
traded the lead several times during the
final lap, but in the end Sampson pulled
out the w in with a scant few seconds
between the two riders.
"It was a great race," Sampson said.
"The weather was super and the course
was near-perfec t tractionwise, and th e
hosting clubs, SERA and the Rockford
Men ' s Club, d id a good jo b on the
co u rse, with a combina tion of tig ht
woods and fast fire roads."

Bersano agreed. "I just had a little tro uble with lapped rid ers today."
Maschino came in a respec table third,
an d consis tency has pa id off for him as
he leads in overall po ints . Judson took
fou rth and Dave Crain was fifth.

for the one that counted as Chris Hicks

Cornett took top honors in the class, as
well as fou rth overall. Wa de Perry of
Perry's Kawasaki was just a few seconds
back in Second.
Harvey Whitaker on his Maxis Tiresbacked KLXcontinued his dominance in
the Open A class, while Glen Hollingshead on ano ther Kawasaki stwed close

in the w in col umn in Four-St roke A
action, while Billy Short stayed close on
his Honda for second place.
Suzuki rider Ronnie Hackett made it
two in a row as he outdistanced fellow
Senior B competitor Leon Parker for the
win. Orlando, Florida, resident Emmett
Cox, on his Mid-South Moto Plex-sponso red Suzuki, made the trip payoff as
he too k first p lace in Super Senior
action over John Giles aboard his new
YZ400F.
