Rounds two and four of th e LA Playa GP Series, scheduled for Ma y 17 and October 4 in Rosarito Beach, Mexico, will be held on a brand -n ew tra ck, according to race promoters. The new track will be built on hard-packed soil, only a few ' yards from the beach . Ro unds one (March 1) and th ree (August 23) and the final round (December 6) will be he ld on the traditional sand track in Cantam ar . WorldSports notes: The da tes of February 28-March 1 will be the finals for the Florida Winter-Am MX Series at Gatorback Cycle Park in Gainesville, Florida, WorldSports changed its schedule to provid e racing and a pro purse for the weeke nd of what had been the AMA trad ional kickoff of the outdoor Nationals. On th e 28th, the same day as the Ta m pa (Flori d a) Supercross , WorldSports will host a schedule for Saturday morn ing 50 ride rs can attend the su percross in Tampa that night. Nic ke ns, who became the fir st Afr icanAmerican rid er ever to qualify for a Grand National main event, a t the '97 Da yt on a Short Tra ck, is sch eduled to ride the entire series. Norfleet is making a return to the Gra nd Na tional trail after parking his equipment duri ng the '97 season. Racing Enterprises Motorsports (REM), the promoters for Carlsbad Raceway' s Saturday MX program , will be mak ing the move to Glen He len Raceway on April 4. According to REM' s Fr ank Th omason, th e Saturda y MX program will remain the same as it has been a t Carlsbad Raceway for the past d ecad e. 'The Arizona Vintage Dirt Racing Association (AVDRA) has announced that it w ill be hosting the inaugural Sou thwest Although his Gran d National dirt track plans are not yet final ized , Joe Kopp has. secured a pair of d eals that will allow him to get in some road racing at the West Coast rounds of the AMA /MBNA Superbike Series. The Washington rider has hooked up with two local dealers to contest bikes in the Supers port classes. Kopp will ride a Dick's Suzuki GSXR600 in the 600cc Supersport class, and a Ricci Motors ports GSXR750 in the 750cc Supersport ranks. "We' re gonna go out and give it a shot," Kopp said of the rides. "It will be fun . I've got to try it. The Bostroms and so me of those other guys did, 50 what the heck?" The Sidecar Road Racing Association will take part in two AMA/M BNA Superbike Series events in 1998.
