led the field into tum one, with Jorgensen and Emesto Fonseca following.
Fonseca moved by Jorgen sen on the
ope nin g lap, and KTM-mounted Dave
Kratz was running fourth. The' top four
places stayed the same until there were
just two laps to go. Jorgensen slipped by
Fonseca for second and Lorusso held on
for the win, some six seconds in front of
Jorgensen, Fonseca and Kratz. Fifth
went to Barry Carsten, who started the
. moto in ninth place.
BSY-backed Fonseca chargedinto the
first turn with Jorgensen and Dutchman
Ryan Voasp to start moto two. Lorusso
started fifth and quickly worked his way
into third by the end of lap two. Fonseca,
Jorgens en and Lorusso freight-trained
around the long course until Lorusso had
bike problems. With. Lorusso off the
pace, Carsten motored into third . Jorg ensen pressured Fonseca until three
laps from the finish; that's when he made
his move to take over the point position.
Jorgensen, on his O'Neal/Smith-backed
RM, crossed the finish line to score the
win over Fonseca and Bromley Suzukibacked Carsten. Johnson and Kr a tz
rounded out the top five spots.
Chad Shepard shot out of the gat e to
start the first 250cc Pro moto as Lorusso,
Keith Bowen and Jo h ns on trailed
behind . Bowen dropped out on t he
opening circuit as Lorusso and Johnson
closed in on early leader Shepard. On
lap two, Lorusso and Johnson mo ved
into the top two positions as Carsten
started to reel in Shepard for third .
Lorusso and Johnson battled for the lead
for two la p s until Joh n so n finally
slipped by. Johnson quickly opened up
a lead of a few seconds, which he held
to the finish line. Lorusso and Carsten
finished second and third, respectively,
with Shepard pu tting in a strong ride to
finish fourth in front of Kratz.
Lorusso rocketed out of the gate to
start moto two, with Jason FInk, Bowen
and Matt Crown d odging his roost.
Lorusso quickly made good use of the
clear track and opened up a big lead on
the res t of the field. Johnson was working his wa y up after a bad start a nd
sliced his wa y into seeond on lap five as
Bowen had bike problems again. By the
time Johnson rea ched second, Lorusso
had a 13-second advantage. Johnson cut
in to Lorusso's lead but it was too little
too late. Lorusso sco red the moto and
over all wi n, ahead of Johnson, Kratz,
Carsten an d Shepard.
Johnson and Carsten both raced in
the 250cc A and Over 25 A classes, with
FMF/ Pro Action-backed Johnson winning both m otos in each class over
Carsten. Carsten later returned to top
both Over 30 A classes over Matt Crown
and Pat Barton.
Suzuki/FMF-backed Travis Pastrana
scored the hat trick of the weeken d as he
topped all three classes he entered. Pastrana first topped both 250cc B mo tos in
his firs t class, b ut not without a fight
from YZ-mounted Buddy Duffy. In the
125cc B division, Pastrana had to pass
BSYrider Tyson Hadsell in the final corner before th e finish line to claim the
o pening-moto win. In moto two, Pastrana led wire to wire for the victory . In
the 125cc You th class, Hadsell scored
the first- mo te win over Pastrana, w ith
