Wint er AMA Motocross Series, held at
the Pasco County Fairgrounds.
In th e fir st 125cc Pro m oto , BSY
rider Ernesto Fonseca led the 22-rider
field in to tu rn one, with Mike Peat and
Chad Shepard in hot pursuit. Fonseca
con tinu ed to lead as Barry Car sten and
Johnso n worked their way throug h the
tr a ffi c after mid pack sta rts . Carsten
closed in on Fonseca with tw o laps to
go and, w hen the w hite flag came out
after 25 minutes of ra cin g , Cars te n
mad e his move an d passed Fonseca in
the ba ck sand sectio n of the co urse .

Keen ey.
"I showed Fonseca my wh eel on the
ins ide two lap s before the finish ," said
Car st en, "a n d then, on th e la st lap, I
we n t ins ide, th en s ho t ou t when h e
di ved to the inside ."
Lorusso on his F&S Suz u ki grabbed
the ea rly lead to start mot o two, with
Currie, Fonseca, Brandon [essem an and
Carsten giving chase. Lorusso led most
of the race as a freigh t train of riders'followed behi nd . Joh nson slid his way into
second and began to look for a way by.
Late in the race, Johnson passed Lorusso
to score the m o to a nd ove rall win .
Lorusso, Currie, Iesseman and Ca rsten
rounded out the top five places.
Johnson jumped out to the early lead
in th e opening 250cc Pro division and
led fro m wi re to wire, scoring the easy
win over Currie, Keith Bowen, Lorus so
and Fonseca .
Currie controlled moto two from the
start and led the entire moto, u ntil Johnson motored his way int o second aft er
starting ou tside of the top five. With two
laps to go, Johnson closed in on Currie
and kn ew he had to mak e th e pass to
earn the ov era ll victo ry. As th e tw o
entered the final corne r and headed for
the finish , Johnso n railed the outside
while Currie took the inside. Currie and
Johnson bumped as they crossed the finish line side by side, with Currie cras hing and Johnso n flyi ng off the cou rs e.
Currie held on for the win by a knobby
over Johnson in one of the closest finishes in Florida Wint er AMA MX his tor y.
Bowen w as th ird o n a KTM, Carsten
wa s fou rth, and rounding ou t the top
five was Dav id Kratz.
Johnson also raced on Saturday and
won the 250cc A class and Over 25 division. Johnson battled Carsten and Matt
Crown in .the Over 25 class and Chad
Shepard a nd Tom Johansson in th e
250cc A class.
