FLORIDA ' ~~ f MOTOCROSS 281h D K 111- Lampkin was thankful to make it to the end without a major crash. Said the World Champion: "1 was determined to get across and 1 ended up coming off the bridge far too fast. 1 almost went over the handlebars big-time, but managed to hold it with two big dabs. 1 was ju st lucky." The following section was, according to Lampkin, "pretty tame," comprised of a series of steps and finishing with a quarter-p ipe , altho ugh it surprisingly took two from Colley and another mark of Colomer. The followin g two sec tio ns w ere bread and butter for the top six, as only Cobos dropped a point - and a silly one at tha t - on th e wooden " d ragon's teeth," while on the following wooden steps all six went through clean. This was a surprise, as in qualifying on ly Colomer and Lampkin had mad e it up the big step while the rest struggled. The final section was the hit-or-miss suspended logs - an obstacle tha t was good for the crowd but not too good for the World Championship chasers. The sadly off-form Colley, plus Cobos and Bilbao - all three Gas Ga s ri ders crashed off for fives as Fujinami joined Colomer and Lampkin in escaping for two. Lampkin won his race with Colomer - this does not happen often, as Colomer usually gets him in the runoffs - leaving Lampkin the winner on just five marks , with Colomer second on seven and Fujinami in an excellent third place. It takes even the top riders at least a season to settle in to the Indoor circuit, and "Fujigas" is showing rapid ly improving form.
