Brandes, Beatty romp at Competition Park Motocross Opener By Jimmy Z8badah SAN JAONlO.CA. DEC. 13-14 Michael Brandes and Tim Beatty took home wins in the 125 and 250cc Pro classes. respectively, at the grand opening of Competition Pa rk. The loamy track offered excellen t conditions and riders were very pleased with the track, which has been holding open p rac tice for aboutthe last year. Dustin Nelson blasted to an ' early lead in the 250cc Pro class, followed by Beatty and Steve Drew. Nelson held on to the lead unlil lap four , when he cras hed, handing the lead to Beatty. Ne lson remounted in fifth, wh ile Drew motored by to take over second place. Beatty rode we ll to ta ke the checkered flag at the end of the IO-Iap mot o, foll o wed by Dr ew. Jo hn Sereika moved up to th ird at th e finis h, a n d Ne lson sett led for fou rt h place. lt was Drew bias lin g out to an early lead in the secon d 2S0ce Pro moto and coming aro u nd with the lead on the firs t lap, with Bea tt y, Sereika, and Ronald Faisst givi ng chase. Beatty mad e his move around Drew on the fourth lap and never loo ked back as he motored to the wi n . Se reika h e ld on to third u n t il h e crashed on lap six and fell back in the pack. Faisst, w ho did n o t finish the firs t m ot o, moved up to th ird d urin g the incide n t, while Nelson followed in fourth unt il he dro p ped out of the race on lap seven. Beatty too k th e W in. fo llo we d by Drew an d Faisst in th ird. Beatty took the overall win w ith a com ma nding I-I , Drew finished seco nd with a 2-2, and Fa isst took the fin al podi u m position. qu ite surprisingly, with his DNF-3. Th e 125cc Pro class ran a one-mota format and Brandes led the race from the first lap all the way to the checkers, a nd Mike Me tzger he ld second place throug ho ut. Donovan Mitchell held off Nelson to claim third place, ' w hile [iri Dosta l rounded oul the top live .
