For the first seven laps, Maschio was close enough to Emig to rub wheels. On the sixth lap, Maschio made a run on Emig and passed him. On the very next lap, Emig squeezed Maschio off into the wall in the tunnel - the first of several roug h moves Emig would make during the weekend. Maschio was now out of the picture, but during the Emig-Maschio battle, Pichon was able to , catch up to the Kawa saki-mounted American. Picho n immediately started his attack and, 10 laps into the race, the U5 .-based Suzuki rider got past. On lap 12, Albertyn crashed back to fourth, mov ing Pichon and Emig to second an d th ird , respectively. Huffma n :.l was long gone wi th the wi n.
