Kawasaki-mounted Bert Reynold s served notice
by winning the AA class at the opening round of
the 1998 A MA Texas C ha m pio ns h ip Hare
Scra mb les Seri es thai he w ill be a force to be
recko ned wi th. After a mediocre start. Reynolds
stead ily picked his wny through the very talented AA class and eventua lly crossed the finish
line 40 seconds ahead o f Shaun Martin.

tracks, fun wood sections and a gnarly, rocky

entertainment on the 6.5-mile cou rse.
Mean whil e, in the Overall A battle, Hond a of
Houston rider Lynn Bailey and AI Cravens traded paint for the first two laps before a wild getoff by Cravens allowed Bailey to gain a lead that
he w ould never relinq uis h. Closely following
Cravens into the finish was two-time lSDE rider
Manny Garza on his XR6OO.

Mike Spohn. moving up after earning last year's
Overall C Championshi p, staked his claim early
ard looked to be firmly in charge. But hallway
through the two-hour-plus-on e-lap race, Troy
