thr ough the scoring area just one second behind . At the end of lap two, the order was Ram ey, Brew er , Adams, Gravitt, Saunders, Veato r and Gary Hendricks. Ramey bea t his first lap tim e by eigh t seconds. As riders went through th e ba rrels, they were greeted w ith a nice, mudd y creek cro ssing, and then went on to a grass-track section on a pasture. Brewer would hav e a little mishap at this creek crossing. " I got tangled up right after go ing throu gh the barrels, and fell in the mud," Brewer sai d. " It cost me a lot of time, because after that, I had to gas up, too." Most rid er s stopped for gas at th e end of lap two. By lap three, Ramey w as steadily increasing his pace and putting valuable seconds between himself and the other rid ers. Brewe r was still hot after Ramey, but he was now one minute, seven second s behind the KTM rider. Ad ams was ' givin g chase to Brewer, w ith only 18 seconds between the two . In the fourth spot was Gravitt, who had about a 3()' second lead on Saunders. Veator would be one minute, 19 second s behind Saunders. The final lap saw Ramey still lead ing, but the second spot cha nged hands from Brewer to Adams. "By the fourth lap, the trail had go tten pretty che we d up by all the ot he r riders ," Brewer said . "I thou gh t I was on the trail, but it just dead-ended . It cost rre a t leas t a minute o r tw o before I fou nd ou t a nd tu rned around to get back on the trail. I met Steve (Saunde rs), who was doing the same thing. We bot h got a little sid etracked ." As he was within seconds of Rarnev , that littl e d etour cos t Brewer valuable time that he just could n't make u p, but he still took the third overall posi tion . At the end of the day, Ramey proved to be the fas test, but th e 38-yea r-old Ada ms really put the pressure on the cham p. "I had a really good race," Adams said . "I got arm pump in the first couple of laps, bu t then warmed up and started chargi ng . On the last lap, we go t into so me lapp ers, an d I had to get off the tra il to mak e a pass. I hit a slump and fell . Then Ashley (Brewe r) ca ug ht me, and we raced to the finish ." Gra vi tt wo uld be fou r th , just a minute off of Brewer, wit h Saunde rs in fifth - not bad for his fin;t AA ride. 0 High Point Hare Scramble Perry.
